Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) No load stumble

Hello My 98 215hp truck seems to have a problem running at higher RPM under a no load condition. When you blip the throttle up past 2k or so, it sputters and pukes out some white smoke. If you keep doing it it appears to get better and runs smoother. The truck runs fine under load and dosn't miss at all or have any white smoke. Any ideas? I "Think" that this problem got worse after I installed the #11 plate but I'm not sure as I really never tried to run it w/o a load at the higher RPM.

Timing, fuel delivery (pressure, volume, air in the system, etc. ) are the big things to check... both would cause your issue.

Hummm I don't see how the timing could be the problem as it gets better if you keep "blipping" the throttle That would have to mean the timing is changing and that would make it run crappy under load too. ( unless the pump changes the timing dynamically?)

215 pumps have a little bit of timing 'advance' built into the plungers... All the other pumps always have the same timing all the time...



I'm not saying that timing is your specific problem... but retarded timing will cause popping and white smoke... along with fuel delivery issues...

is the engine cold when you do this? if it is then the reason it get better the more you do it is because the engine is warming up. you have more fuel to burn with the #11 plate than you did stock. if i do the same thing to my truck when it is cold it will do the same thing as yours.
