I removed the county fair grand champion water mellon cat today. And the 30 gallon barrel muffler on my 600 today. Replaced them with a 4" twister muffler, It really sounds pretty bad. Kinna sounds like a V10 with turbo mufflers (VERY RASPY) when I find time I'm gonna try to remove the silencer ring to see if that helps any. Any imput on this would be very appreciated.

Aeroturbine it!

Tex, you need one of these baby

An Aeroturbine makes a huge difference in sound, gets rid of raspy and adds the deep throaty Cummins sound you're looking for.

Go to this website to hear it on my truck

SOOOOO

Now that you killed the kitty can you answer something for all of us who have been wondering the $20,000,000 question: what does the cat look like inside? Is it honeycomb? Is there anything interfering with the airflow? Can you see inside it very well? Please descibe and even better photograph it for us.

Thanks,

Vaughn

Removing the silencer ring will make the turbo sing, but it won't do anything for the exhaust note. Pretty sure that's related to the small size of the exhaust side of the turbo. I haven't gotten a definate answer, but I think upgrading the turbo will get some of the old 2G sound back.

Vaughn, I didn't even think to look in the cat. I threw it out in my good ***** pile. I'll take a look today and see if I can get a pic for yall. I'll also keep an eye on the fuel mileage. All the other diesel trucks I have owned have gained about 2mpg with no muffler.

I would agree

im running a 5 inch system on mine and thats exactly what I thought about it

sounds just like my old V-10 with straight pipes

like a sick ford 6 cylinder gasser

I'll second on the Aeroturbine! I'm lovin' mine. You'll just need to mount it about 12" plus or minus a little behind the downpipe. It has the right sounds in all the right places----like a big straight pipe but without all the extra bark, cackle and hiss.

The Aeroturbine ad says that adding two inline will decrease EGTs even more and provide better airflow.

Has anyone tried 2?

Does the sound the muffler creates disturb your wife while riding in the truck?

I've gotta call BS... I don't even see how one could provide lower EGT's and better air flow than straight pipe... but two? I ain't buying it.

Vaughn,

The Aeroturbine site you linked to says that there was a 2. 5mpg increase just by installing this muffler.

Did you see any improvement - hand calculated or on the overhead?

Sorry, I dont like the way the aeroturbine or any exhaust sounds on the 3G ram. This new technology realy took the fun out of the exhaust sound.

BTW Spooled-up, How often you go to the Argosy? I am a frequent visitor:D

Ok I couldn't get a good pic of the guts in the cat. It looks exactly like the cats on the gassers. Lots of little tiny holes in the form of a bees hive.

No tellin how much back pressure that thing causes.

Think about the egt with a bomb with that thing under there.

Sorry I plan on keeping my old cat. Might need to put it back on for warranty work.
