No more Cummins...

Heard it from a Dodge dealer today. In 2011 Fiat will put one of their own diesels in the Ram. No details except NO CUMMINS!

I have had exactly the same experience at dealerships. I explain the product to them.

Fiat has reportedly been in business 100 years or more. The execs at Fiat aren't stupid.

This was reported in "Fleetowner" online newsletter yesterday evening, but as a speculation by the author. It was also in context of the Sprinter line being sent back to Mercedes most likely because Fiat makes a couple of fine competitive models in the Iveco line. Fiat was not commenting.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to rumors from dealers either. I do know that
Cummins Fiat joint ventures in Europe are strained at best, and that Cummins has
suspected Fiat of "borrowing" more than their share of Cummins proprietary diesel
engineering. Believe me, there is no shortage of stupid and incompetant exec's
especially in the auto industry. Chrysler and Fiat were both nearly run into the
ground by poor management. As far as conspiracy theories go Harvey, you may
forget all about bashing Obama when the Mafia takes your beloved Cummins away.
We will know more in Nov. when Fiat announces it's new reorganization plans.

Some dealers because wrong information on a web site said the new 6. 7 was going to be V-8.

Fiat would be out of their mind to drop Cummins.



When I was looking for a ST model with Club Cab I had a truck salesman at dealer in a well off city tell me they only came it the SLTmodel. Well dealers in the poorer cities had ST and SLT models in the Club Cab.

is in worse shape than he originally thought. Wonder what that means?

Inquisition. Don't you think you would have some choice words for

Marchionne if he even hinted at a divorce with Cummins? And it is

(I know it's heresy) a real possibility.

I dont care what Fiat puts in the 2011, I will still be driving the one I have for many years to come. Besides, euro spec. vehicles are totally different then their US counterparts. I doubt Fiat would be dumb enough to drop a line of such loyalty and pride unless they had to. But either way I wont lose sleep over such a thing.

What I have seen is that Fiat is investigating the use of an Iveco diesel for the Ram 1500, this is not supposed to affect the 2500 and up trucks... .

I can tell you this and I know if won't fall on deaf ears in a forum like this, if Fiat puts an Iveco in the Ram 1500 and lets Cummins shop their V6 and 5. 0L V8 to other makers, my next truck(assuming it's not a Ram 3500 Mega Cab), will not be a Dodge... I'll be following Cummins; yes, even if it's a V8... .

The Iveco diesel engine is a far superior product compared to what we are accustomed to expecting from the Fiat name. I had one in an Iveco 12-14 truck (one of the last sold in the US), and while the truck left someting to be desired, the engine, while not as smooth and refined as a 5. 9, was bulletproof.
