Thanks for all the suggestions, support and ideas guys.

It's a long ways off, so I have all my options on the table.

BTW, I have a Red seal stationary engineers license. It's the second highest license you can get in NJ.

I know I can make some $$$ in the city, but I'd like to stay as far away from the there as possible. :D

I was camping out by QRTRHRS's stompin grounds last week. Very nice country. I'd love to live there, but it dont seem as though there is a lot of work. I even looked into land and houses... . but the work thing... ... ugh. :D

I was recently thinking on going in business for myself. Who knows, I may still end up doing this. This was long before I found out about the plant closing.

Keep the ideas coming in... . :D

There are all types of conventional power plants around that area, the company I work for is looking for someone in Pawtucket, RI right now. Try looking at www.merchantpowerplant.com there are alot of things on there and they change frequently. As for nursing I think that is a good way to go, people are always going to be sick but for me it would seem depressing if you had to work with older dying people or cancer patients all the time. I just never liked hospitals, but if you don't mind them, that would be an excellent choice.

Always a drawback huh? What little work there is pays 8-10 bucks/hour. Skilled? Maybe 15. Professional like medical or legal? Same as anywhere. Homes? You can buy a house in any coal town for 15k or so. Not too many farms or other open space on the market right now.

I was looking at new homes, pre manufactured.

A big cape cod with a basement, well and septic for 130K + land. I dont remember if it was 28X56 or 28X64. Upstairs had 3 dormers and was unfinished.

Land was supposidly about 20k for a "few acres".

He said land and taxes were a bit cheaper out in your county.

He said something about 15-20 acres for 40-45K~ish. Could have just been BS.

Turbo tim, I think if they'll send me to school, I'm doing that. This is all a ways off... who knows maybe they wont be doing it then. We will see, but thanks for the link. :D

I found out today that the state would send me to school to be an RN for two years, and pay unemployment the whole time.

I got this second hand, I'm going to confirm it tomorrow.

If this turns out to be fact, it's what I'll be doing.

Also, the unemployment is a little under $500. 00 a week.

I really hate to think I'll be on the public dole that long. :(

Well, from where 1/3 of the country is right now, I'm thinking some jobs in the power industry should be opening up by the time you need a new job. Either building new plants or working in new plants. Most likely, away from the city a bit but still on the east coast somewhere.

Just a thought. I hope all goes well for you.

PS. Get those plow lights working good now as you may want some extra money this winter :D
