Thats the way they are made so they seal better than K&N. Been using them since I had my 95.

I just installed the TS-106 on my '01 ETH DEE and was not very impressed with the fit/finish! To use the factory airbox you must push it down instead of latching in the hinge and locking the clips. The filter is too large for the airbox itself. I also got stabbed by the unfinished edge that allows the wire mesh to protrude into your hand.

I guess you get what you pay for.
