This just started to happen this evening. Normal oil pressure when running at 1800 - 2000 rpm. When stopped at light, running 800 rpm oil pressure drops to 0. When increasing rpm to 1000 to 1200 oil pressure starts to rise but is on the low side. When increasing rpm to 2000, looks normal. When dropping rpm back to 800 rpm, pressure back to 0. This is a factory gauge in the dash.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Frank

You need to get a mechanical gauge on there ASAP.

There is a 1/8" port right above the oil filter.

If there is a good pressure reading from the mechanical unit.

I would switch out the pressure sensor, its a big brass/plastic sensor near your ECM.

A 32mm or 1 1/4" deep well will get it off and on.

Also check the regulator as mentioned above, 19mm will access this near the top of the oil filter.

There is a spring and plunger inside.

Yes, I did check oil level. (1st thing I did). I hooked up a oil pressure gauge. What pressures should I be seeing?

I think it is the sending unit.

Ten bucks it's a Part # 3408428 for $64. 70 from cummins.

Mine did the same thing then read zero forever (And D/C came out with a horrible band aid that reads:

09-001-01 All Intermittent loss of oil pressure sensor ouput voltage.

This bulletin applies to 2500/3500 diesels with engine serial number 56744083 to 56809910. The output voltage of the oil pressure sensor may intermittently dropout. This condition may cause the engine oil pressure gauge needle to erroneously indicate lower than actual oil pressure. A warning chime may sound and the “Check Gauges” lamp may illuminate. The Engine Control Module (ECM) software has been revised to address this condition. Replacing the oil pressure sensor will not correct this condition.

Replacing the sender won't eh? WRONG! Many trucks have replaced sensors and all is good WITH A LIVE READ TOO.

The reflash tells the ecm to ignore oil pressure and report a false reading so the dinger wont go off ... ... Nice 'eh

Justin...

Do you have part numbers for both of these (24 valve engine)?
