I own a 1999 2500 2wd auto which came with a 53 block. The block cracked and I replaced it with a 2001 which came with ecu and harness, Since install I am unable to get O. D. Any ideas? Thanks ,Dan H

I would change your harness and ecm. I just put an 01 transmission in my 99 and had to change the solenoids because they are of a different design. That ecm/ harness probably doesnt mate with your 99 trans.

Dan,

It's likely the ECM that came with your new engine isn't compatible with your truck's configuration. You'll probably need to have the ECM reflashed (if it can be) or replaced. I've read in Dodge TSB's that the Chrysler DRBIII scan tool won't allow an ECM to be reflashed with software from a completely different configuration after its initial programming. This restriction is designed to prevent mechanics from accidentally flashing an ECM with a completely wrong software version.

Do you still have the ECM from your original engine? If so, I'd try it. If not, you can buy a refurbished ECM from Auto Computer Exchange for a reasonable price.

Best regards,

John L.

Another option may be to replace the shift, tc, governor solenoids and pressure transducer to the 2001 style. Thats all that I switched when I put the 2001 trans in my 99 and it works great. If you have the ecm and entire harness from the 01 already in there it may be easier to just swap the solenoids.
