Check your air filter. One of my 06s was doing the same thing. I opened the air filter housing and found the filter balled up in the top of the air box.

That filter collapsing is a 3rd gen thing... ... ... .....

I'm guessing you have replaced the pump in the middle of this thread and now the truck's fine?? I found my Carter lift pump, though not failing, had lost 'displacement reserve' at higher road speeds (NOT higher rpm - Higher fuel flow demands) as the return spring weakens, the piston doesn't apparently return fast enough to move as much fuel. I didn;t realize how much the old lift pump was starving the Bosch 7100 until I changed it!!! If you had a tick like a bomb that disappeared when you changed the pump - sounds familiar!!!
