I have a 1993 1 ton 4x4 and had a small wiring problem with an aftermarket flatbed. I had a short to ground from where the previous owners tried to wire it. After I cleaned up that I re-hooked the battery up and when I turned the key I got all the regular lights (wait to start), but when I tried to start initially I got nothing..then I heard a burning/sizzling noise, then everything went out. Now I have power to headlights, dash lights turn signals but now power to my ignition. I also don't have any power to my starter solenoid. Any suggestions, I can't find any fusable links to check. Any help will be appreciated.

By the left side hood hinge. The is a "Y in one wire coming out of that Y is 5 smaller wires. Those are fuse links. One is burnt.

I found one of the fusable links bad and wired around it to the main wire that brought power to the "y". I hooked everything up and when I turned the key all the ignition lights worked (Wait to start, water in fuel). When I tried to start it arced off the positive terminal. After monkeying with it awhile longer it still wont start. I have power through the fuseable links, but now I have no power to headlights, horn etc. When I turn the key nothing happens. Thoughts? Thanks in advance for the help.

Start is closest to battery. ASD relay is center. A/C is closest to hood hinge.

There are two fuse links sending power to the switch. If the switch is dead. Recheck everything agin.

How you getting along?
I still don't have it running. Yesterday I noticed the positive terminal on the battery was bubbling fluid when I connected the ground. I swapped batteries and it started. I figured among other things the battery was bad so i bought a new one today. When I installed it didn't start. I got power to the cab and switch (wait to start light/water in fuel light on, door buzzer working) but nothing when I turned the key to start. I could hear the relay closest to the firewall clicking when my son turned the key. I checked the five fusable links off the "y" and with a test light they show good. Thoughts?

Use a screw driver and jump across the starter. See if the starter is working when you bypass all wiring. You could have a bad set of contacts inside of the starter causing you problems.

The relay closest to the fire wall should have been for the A/C. The starter is the closest to the battery.

I did have to replace the small wire on my starter along with the positive cable as I got internal corrosion happening on the main cable I also made it a little longer so it would not be so taunt . ,also you might take a hammer and give it a good smack on the side and see what that does . also Foster truck has contact kiuts for around $45.00 ,note order plastics as hthey get brittle as well
