truck has ran great till now with about 4000 miles on new motor and upgrades it all went down hill. I have lost all my power and i blow enough black smoke on the same settings as before to black out the sun. I had very little smoke before and had plenty of power. Fuel economy is the same and my air cleaner is clean, the fuel presssure is good and filter i changed just to make sure. My spool up is way slower and i build only 42 pounds of boost instead of 62 - 65 like before. same alltitude and i have no codes or hidden codes either. my injectors were done by schieds could it be them(100hp). even with no chips at all i still blow some smoke enough to fill one lane. it went to shop today to get a pressure test. I have noticed my intercooler has ballooned some on the passanger side. any similar problems or ideas would be great thanks.

it is a brand new intercooler from bd with 4000 miles on it
just got off the phone with them and they seem to think my map sensor is bad they are emailing me the test sheet to do with a volt meter and i guess i will see if that is my problem but i find it had to beleive that a truck with 26k miles has a bad map sensor
anythoughts on that or ideas

I am having the same kind of problem. When you mash the pedal can you count to three before it starts to pull and stop smoking? If you lean into it slowly does it still smoke like a *******? Mine will take a while to spool and smokes badly untill it catches but if I lean into it gingerly once I hit about 1800 rpms it will pull hard and stop smoking. I don't know what is failing but something is Fu!*ed up and no codes like you. If you get the test sheet I would be interested in that info if you don't mind.

Thanks,

Could be boost leak (ie intercooler, etc), maybe the MAP sensor, it could also be very low rail pressure (injectors, relief valve, cp3, FCA or some combination of the above).

Cody, any news on the map senser diagnosis? Anyone know how to check the FCA without having to shotgun a new part in? I saw you posted that your fuel pressure is good. Is that before and after the CP3?

Thanks,

Bill

my buddy has the same problem started with blown trans at 6K wasted block at 13k now with a 13K rebuild the silver B only makes 45psi and low on power #@$%!

well i am not the only one with this problem has anyone fixed it?
i have no boost leaks but i am having trouble getting a scaner to hook up to my truck it will only hook up generically
this is whats going on now
rail pressure at idle reads 1300
i have a vibration at idle now
my over boost code comes on after i tow for 30 min or so and comes right back (reset code) before i even hit 20lbs of boost let truck sit over night and it won't come on for 30 min or so again and then stays on
200 to 300 hp less (guesstamation)
i feel this is electronic and not my pump as it still runs and tows at high speeds

i have changed the 2 sensors for the pump and the relief valve no change

can a map sensor control the fuel pressure or is mabey ecm bad

The rail pressure is way low for that year truck. IIRC, it should be 5-7k at idle. Possibly the FCA is not working correctly, or, as you suggested may have a bad ECU. Either could cause the problem as well as a bad CP3.

Pull the electrical connector on the FCA and see if you can get it to start and see what the rail pressure is. It should max at about 23k and rattle like crazy if the CP3 is making pressure. You will get codes but should be able to clear them. Good luck. :)

yal i did that and it sure does rattle and i don't think my pump is bad cause i can tow at speeds up in the 80's with out a problem i have it in private shop now and we will see what they say but only way to hook up a scan tool is threw dodge so we will see if they let my guy borrow one he is also going to check the injectors but i drove her today with him and the smoke is less and had some power back think it must be electrical as now it seems to be a little different. vibration is still there and not fixed but it figures take her in and she acts better. well hopefully she will act up again when he looks at it in the morning. #@$%!
