i just bought a 95 with 315,000 miles and been working on it quite a bit, fixing little things. it starts and runs awsome, but it sounds like it has a stumble when its idles. the other day i cut a plate for it (a 10 profile) and put it in. ive done it to a dozen trucks and they all work fine, but this one picked up no power, so im going to change the overflow when it stops raining, but thought i would gather some other ideas while the weather is bad. i started with the plate centered and now its full forward and no power. its a 160 pump, this is the first one of those ive worked on, i know there small but it should pick up some decent power shouldnt it? no smoke or power is makin me mad.

Still should be able to get plenty of power with the 160 pump. I have the #8 plate (centered) on my 95 and it is as strong as my stock 03 HO. Possible air leak in rubber fuel lines?

Gary

make sure the AFC housing is full forward too. My brother's 97 with the 215 barely picked up any power from stock to the 0 plate until we moved the housing all the way forward.

i just replaced the fuel lines, and the afc is full forward. when i changed the overflow valve there was no needle!! just a spring. it helped a bit but wouldnt hold a candle to my 98's truck. new lift pump, new lines, new overflow, maybe the trans is slipping???

what is the timing on these trucks? Could that be suspect? Before my 10 plate i was at 16*, now with 18*. p l e n t y of power... even with the plate in the stock position... ... ... ...

i havent got a chance to check it, but i doubt its slipped much, ive timed a ton of trucks and know the symptoms and its not acting like timing, but im going to about 15. 5 to see if it helps. i just cant figure it out#@$%! im givin it a gov kit this weekend to see if that helps too. this ones really got me stumped:confused:

Chances are its your afc. Ive worked on a few "farm trucks" lately from the 94-96 era, all of them complaining about loss of power.

I have a gutted AFC I put on those truck to test, its the first thing I do.

Its solved the problem on all but 1 truck (that truck was sucking air in one of the lines. . ).

Only one of them had a hole in the diaphragm. The others just needed some cleaning up. I just took them apart, cleaned everything, etc.

While you have it apart, you might as well mod the AFC as well so that you dont have to do it later down the road.

There is an orifice in the AFC line. Mine got plugged on my 96 and was drilled out by a Bosch shop. I think it is in the brass fitting screwed into the AFC diaphram housing. This orifice gets plugged, disabling the AFC. It is common practice to drill out the orifice to eliminate the plugging problem. It can be checked by removal of the AFC and pressurizing the diaphram through the brass fitting. On a stock AFC you should get full range of motion at 18psi.
