Hydro-Boost brake system

Vote for me, TDG:truck of the month!!

Since the 6. 0 debacle, the two have not been on good terms. Especially with Ford suing Int over the warranty claims and such. Then Int upped the price on the engines by alot, which I guess wasn't in the original contract price with Ford. Sounds like a lovers spat. Now the one partner is holding out on the other. But they both lose. It'd take another company years to develop an engine for Ford... I don't think that is gonna happen right now. .

Yeah it probably will not happen but a guy can dream... . what if they put this in the trucks

DC and Cummins better hope they never put that engine in a Ford. I would be all over an F350 with a small Cat under the hood.

Mike

I agree (while it will never happen) the new C7 with common rail fuel system and now with an actual engine brake (not those worthless exhaust flappers) would be tough in a pickup.

This may cause Ford to do a deal with CAT or someone else to keep up in the market which may be a blessing in disguise for Ford.

It will never happen. Caterpillar does not make an engine small enough to go in a light duty pickup. Yes, a Super Heavy Duty Ferd is still a light duty truck. From what I read, Caterpillar is not interested in smaller engines.

C7:

Weight 1425 lb (647 kg)

Horsepower 190-300 hp @ 2500/2400 rpm

Torque 520-860 lb-ft @ 1440 rpm

The weight to power would be a little off for a pick-up. But the torque is there;)

Cat (like Cummins) has smaller engines built for them by other companies. I just hope for furd's sake that they FINALLY go with an inline 6 like a TRUE diesel truck should have! There are companies that make excellent inline 6 diesels. John Deere could be a great possibility, especially since off-road equipment and on-road equipment will soon have to meet similar emission standards. I personally am happy with Dodge and Cummins, but a little REAL competition never hurts!

Actually Cat makes all kinds of small engines some as low as 10hp (some are labeled as Perkins) of course they're not for "on hwy use" but that should be a small hurdle. They have a 6. 6L industrial engine (1157lbs). Not that any of these would be good in a truck but they do make them.

If you look again the HP has been raised. 330hp used to be the max for the RV\Fire applications. Now it's up to 360hp for fire\emergency. I wouldn't worry about the weight. Use a heavier rated axle and make 19. 5's standard with the diesel options (just like the F-450\550's) for the better tires and brakes. :D

I hate to pop your bubble, but the next cummins will be a V motor.

well im still trying to load the website. but i never could see why cat couldnt easily slip in the light duty world. they have that nice little 6. 6 acert motor thats passes the tier level needed for the ford and it can easily be rated for 360 hp 650 torque like the 6. 4

Cat would make a killing if they started to put em in pickups... ... . just takes enough $$$$$$$$$$ to persuade them to do it.

Not likely... Ford would only buy engines from CAT "on the cheap" without warranty (like from Navistar), but when problems occur, Ford would all of a sudden want CAT to start coughing up money for the warranty costs just as is the case now with Navistar.

Also CAT isn't in the financial bind that Navistar was in the early 80s with a new big block gasoline engine factory (Indianapolis Engine) producing engines for mediun duty truck market that was rapidly going to diesel power.
