Freebore, I have been doing some digging/poking around at my local friendly Dodge dealer and I think I found the source of this confusion. When a tech sets up a truck to do a mobile regen there is a screen that pops up, it has some warnings and one of them says to have cruise control off. So, I think that dealers have inferred incorrectly from this screen that cruise control disables regen.

Thanks for the update - it sounds like a good explanation, but as you say they assume wrong.

My 2008 4500 regens in cruise. It also try to start a regen when I'm stopped at a light. Exhaust temp gauge doesn't lie. Preturbo temp jumps at least 300 degrees on the same trip.

Well now it's Sept 4, my truck is still waiting for parts and as such, out of service since last Monday. 2 weeks with no truck is not good for my business. I called Chrysler customer service today to start a file on my complaint about the wait for parts. While I got a file #, it was really a waste of time. what should I do next ??? The delete EGR / DPF kit sounds like the way to keep the truck on the road.

Well all I can say is all the trucks shipped to Canada and made in Mexico have Fleetguard After Treatment CAT and DPF part numbers on them. You can call me a lier all you want it does not change the facts. How ever after running temperatures of 1400 degrees there are no labels left on any part of the system. just a side note my last Active Regen cycle ran as high as 1400 degrees and the total duration of the procedure was 79 minutes, as confirmed by the StarScan at the dealer by the shop foreman when I brought it in to state the truck was running very long periods of regen. I did not tell him how long he told me after doing extensive testing which confirmed to me his testing confirmed what was happening in real life also when and for how long and at what temperatures the last regen occurred. It does store a lot of information.

What is a regen?

Man oh man. I'm checking in to see what's new because I've been thinking of buying a new truck. I don't remember ever seeing so many problems with any previous years/model changes. My '99 isn't a daily driver anymore so I can wait, all this talk really turns me off to buying a Dodge right now.

Just as a verification I went to my local Cummins dealer and he verified that indeed Cummins/Fleetguard makes the DPF components as used on the Dodge/Cummins. Not to start a war but do not state incorrect opinions when the FACTS speak for themselves.

We've got 26K miles on our 08 5500 and to our knowledge we've never seen the re-gen happen. . this is a road truck for us and spends a lot of time on cruise control... .
Unless you have a Juice with Attitude or something that will tell you that it is regening, you will not know. Even during regen if you watch the overhead MPG start dropping you can not be sure if it is because of regen or a slight increase in load.

THe Juice alerts you when the regen starts and stops. The reason it regens less on the highway is because it does a passive regen. THe more load you have, the more heat is created just from the driving process and this helps to prevent it from dumping more fuel to create heat in the DPF.

THe computer monitors the EGT and O2 to see if it needs regen along with delta pressure. If it isn't getting warm enough, Putting around town, it will regen.

Several months ago I sent an e-mail question to Cummins, Inc. asking for information on the regeneration process. The reply sent to me by a spokesman for Cummins explained that the regeneration equipment and software on our Dodges was provided by Dodge, not Cummins, and they were unable to answer any questions about the regen process.

I posted my message and the reply from Cummins right here in the TDR website.

For all who read this thread, my post #29 above is incorrect. I learned today from an engineer at Cummins that the message that was sent to me and posted on the TDR months ago was incorrect. In fact CUMMINS DOES PROVIDE the emissions equipment and software on our Dodge Rams with Cummins engines.

I wrote a new thread explaining and apologizing to the membership for posting inaccurate information. I believed it was correct at the time but it was incorrect.
