Well I lost reverse all of a sudden one night in town. Next day when I headed out of town, found out I had no 3rd or 4th as well. Trans is a DTT that was put in June of 2005. The truck has 172,000, with 77,000 on the transmission. Mainline pressure is 140 at lockup. Reverse port in gear at idle is 160psi. Gov port at 30 mph is 45psi. Pulled the pan off, fluid is clean, and no parts. Not sure what is wrong. Any ideas??? All help is greatly appreciated!!!

Kevin,

By process of elimination, it sounds like something related to the front clutch could have failed. It's only involved with engaging the reverse, third, and fourth gears. Repair involves removing the transmission as the front clutch is located behind the fluid pump.

Good luck,

John L.

Thanks for the reply. Been away from TDR while finishing up with college and graduating. Ok, so you think the front clutch has went out, so any idea what might cause this. The truck has been in 4 or 5 truck pulls, towed about 8-10% of the 77,000 miles, and pretty easy driving the rest.

Im just confused because I was parked in town, BACKED out of a parking spot, drove across town and dropped a few people off, drove back to my apartment, went to back into a space and wa la, no reverse. Next time I drove it I found no 3 or 4 either. I can understand things going bad when Im beating on them, like when you get stuck or something, but this is really weird. Can someone please enlighten me??
