Ok guys I haven't had reverse lights since I had to put another clutch in in July.

I've looked under the truck a few times, didn't see anything that wasn't connected, except for one two-prong connector with a green water seal around it. I doubt this would have anything to do with my back up lights not working seeing as its towards the front of the transmission on the left side.

Any idea what else to look for? I've checked the fuse and pulled the bulbs and they aren't blown.

I feel like a real idiot asking you guys for help on this one, but I'm stumped.

There's a connector on the top left side of the transmission that I believe controls the reverse lights. It's forward of the shifter a couple of inches.

You might wanna feel around up there for the other end of that connection

The transmission has a reverse sensor on it that activates the relay for your backup lights. Make sure your still connected to it. If you are, and it still isn't working, you can check it with a volt/ohm meter. In the ohm setting, connect one lead of the tester to the wire coming out of the sensor, and the other to ground. Put the transmission in reverse and see it the meter goes to low or zero resistance. If it does, the sensor is working, and you will have to start checking other wiring. My guess is you disconnected the sensor when you were fooling around with the clutch. Have fun... ;)

It sounds like that two prong connector is exactly what you're after. I'd try to find the other end of it.

Curtis thanks man that pic showed me exactly where that two-prong connector went!

Dang buddy said "it was unhooked when we started"

and you can't see the switch from below the truck.

Plugged in, got lights, thanks guys!

Glad you solved the problem. .

By the way... For those of you who want to add better (bright) backup lights, that wire, from the transmission sensor is a great place to pick up the trigger leg for your new relay to run the lights. :)

How would you go about tapping that wire as well as having them available on a toggle switch?

I already have some backup lights mounted, but took the wiring out because it was a crappy job. I like the idea of the extra lighting when instantly when I hit reverse, but what when I'm hooking or unhooking to a trailer at night? The extra light would be welcomed for that as well as several other uses.

You mount a three position toggle switch in the cab. The center position is off, and cuts off this trigger leg from the reverse sensor. The up position is "manual" and lets you turn the backup lights on anytime (good for trailer hookup). The down position is "auto" and turns the lights on any time you put the transmission in reverse. Mine also is powered through the ACC or On position of the key, so you can't accidentally turn them on and forget it, without the key in the ignition. This is a lot harder to describe then it really is to do it, so if you can find someone who has some experience with this, it can be done pretty quickly. Maybe someone on the TDR can draw a wiring diagram and post it... ;)
