Stopped in Autozone to borrow the scanner to reset my MIL.

Our illustrious government has deemed it ILLEGAL for them to loan a scanner to a customer. SIG HIEL! (and snap your heels together)! GRRRRR!!:mad:

What have you heard about this and what caused this stupid decision?

Cali blues.

It's been against their policy to clear codes for quite awhile but they would always loan you one to read or clear codes in the parking lot. I'll stop by mine tomorrow and check. I guess that's the governators fix for an unsigned budget?

I would guess the unions had something to do with forcing that through as it cuts into the income of the mostly unionized labor in CA.

what a load of carp.

It is to bad you are not closer, I'd loan mine for the few minutes that it would take to make things better.

Well, I guess next it will be illegal to own one. Looks like I need to buy one while they are available to the 'common unlicensed citizen'.

Any opinions on an AFFORDABLE one? Hopefully one that would work on more than just my DC Cummins truck.

I will tell you the unions has not one thing to do with it it is the crazy goverment !! And the queer state of CA.

This state is turning into a Cuba. Now it is illegal to use a cell phone driving. Guess they will be limiting tuning a radio next. I am sick and tired of the assinine politics here. Can't affort to sell and move either. Eventually this may start a revolution!

Before long it will be illegal to breathe in Komifonia!

Godspeed,

Trent

Haven't wanted to breath the air around here lately with all the fires... I grew up in Eastern Washington, what a major difference it is in how people think around here. If it wasn't for all the work around here, I'd leave!

Hey, you all need to think about if what youre posting here is technically "politically correct" or not. People have the right to access "non-hostile" diesel related forums you know. :-laf

Is it legal to say the word "diesel" here in cali??

Natives? There ain't no 'mo natives here!

I'm a California non-Native American native,a rare breed indeed. Currently I'd say 75% of our inhabitants are from other states or countries. When you say Cali folks think differently, you have to qualify that statement.

I think that is why Autozone won't lend scanners: The check engine light is an indication something is wrong with the emissions control system on a vehicle. CA doesn't want people resetting the light and ignoring the problem that caused the light in the first place.

Te next question is:
-Is it illegal, or just against company policy?
-If it is illegal, how is the shadetree mechanic to work on his / her own vehicles?

-The industry voluntarilly made diagnostic equipment and information available at a no / low cost a few years ago to avoid the government stepping in to force them to do it.
-This was to allow shadetree mechanics and independent shops to work on any machine. You were not tied to a dealer because the information needed (electronically) would be available from many sources and standardized.
-If it is in fact illegal to lend a scanner, the governement (or at least CA) is going aginst that idea, and driving consumers back to a dealer monopoly.

That can be true. San Diegans of 25-30 years ago were more laid back, kind of reminded me of my last visit to the big island. Northern CA, has anyone ever heard of the state of Jefferson? Unfortunately the majority of the population is centered in the more famous cities and the valley. The mentality of these city folk, well lets just say they are ignorant and act that way. Unfortunately by shear volume this city mentality is the face of Komifornia. Folks like you Bob are a dieing breed or are so overshadowed by gangstas and azhats that when people talk of folks from CA they fail to understand it is just a stereotype.

Here in OR we deal with the same problem. Folks in Salem/Portland think hunting is bad, they legislate what tools can and can't be used by wildlife control experts. I wish, literally, those folks could have been in my shoes when I met a cougar recently. They have an eerie stare, you are not human you are mo-goo-gypan or number 23! Guess who is packing when I walk now. I couldn't even move all my muscles knotted up and there was no going anywhere, I'm glad I was able to back away eventually. Point is, none of those goons have ever seen a wild animal, except birds, but they know what is best for the rest of the state.

I know the most outspoken anti-outsider folks seem to be the transplants up your way. The native(hope it's pc to reuse that term) folks seem to just let it be. It sure has changed down here. The weather,my neighborhood(for now) and a $19,000 mortgage are about the only things keeping me here. Also, property values have soared everywhere also. I haven't worn long pants in seven months either. :):) Oh well.

AH, California, home of fruits and nuts!:-laf They're probably afraid you'll make an assault scanner out of it! You could literally run around and scan dozens of cars and trucks at one time! THE CARNAGE!

It's been a few years back, but I recall a movement in California some years back aimed at making it illegal for other than licensed garages and workers to make repairs on their own vehicles - don't remember the particulars any more - but the dealerships and manufacturers have quite effectively put most areas off limits to vehicle owners, with that weapon called "warranty"...

How many TDR members have we seen post as to all the wonderful mods they will do when the warranty expires - or else moaning as to what they CAN'T do because of it. .

What a bunch of spineless wusses, held hostage by a pitiful piece of paper - it YOUR truck, why wait for YEARS to make it what YOU, the OWNER, want it to be... ;):-laf:-laf
