i recently put a set of tst perfomance 275 hp injectors in my truck with hopes of getting more smoke. I was a little dissapointed in not getting anymore smoke from it. I have dual five inch stacks on the truck and that is the reason the whole smoke deal is an issue. A friend of mine has the same hp chip, a set of 275s, and afe intake in an 01 HO Cummins and it smokes like a freight train. I'm kinda new at the whole bombing truck stuff so any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

1998. 5 Quad Cab 2wd Dually Auto 24 valve Cummins tst power max, k and n cold air intake, 275's, gauges, 2 10's and a 600 watt amp pushin them

Welcome to the TDR. When I put 275's in my truck I thought it was great that I could make a little smoke. It never did smoke a whole lot even with the powermax on 9 it was not real offensive. Now I have mach 2's and I can lay down a smoke screen if I want to. The 275's are ok if you can't afford anything else otherwise for power and smoke you have to go bigger.

My buddie is running Mach 1. 5's with the banks kit in his 01. It smokes a fair bit but not excessively. Enough to satisfy him and his 5" stacks

This is what scares me, people looking for more smoke! Everbody needs to realize that sooner or later enough "concerned citizens" are going to complain that the epa will crack down on us big time! Personally I don't like seeing a bunch of black smoke, thats unburned fuel that could be used to make more power. I do have to admit to belching on a few inconsiderate motorist on occasion, though.

We are going to die by our own sword with the smoke issue. I like smoke, but its a double edged blade. EPA nuts will crack down on us soon. And we don't need to help that out.

But a selectable power box with smoke level adjustment can give you what your looking for, especially with bigger injectors.

I have to tell you guys. I can't stand being behind a truck that smokes like that. It's ususally the Fords and Dodges with the young driver too. I guess when they get beat by a truck that does not smoke, they might get it.

Every truck (when adding larger injectors or a box) will smoke at low boost. As long as it clears up what's the problem? You guys right away are beating a dead horse "Oh, its the young driver with the import, or the young driver in the hot rod", well ask your self which is worse the young guy in the hotrod/import or the guy who's in the diesel pickup that smokes a little bit? As long as your not trying to street a sled pulling truck then everything will be fine.

I never said anything about young drivers, I know some old idiots who want to pour smoke out. It is these people who are going to cause the problem, young or old! But if you think the EPA won't crack down on the smoke issue for trucks that belch when they take off without even having a load your just kidding yourself, they are mandating lower soot levels and are trying to eliminate the soot issue entirely! I get complaints from "gassers" all the time about the little puff I get when my truck starts and there are a few places in Kalifornia that are trying to ban private diesel ownership in thier counties entirely! Don't forget the mentality of most of these enviro-idiots, our trucks are a target because they can see the soot, never mind the fact that our trucks are cleaner in all emisions categories except nox, and that is only marginally higher, so they go for the visible enemy instead of what they can't see!

All I am saying is that not all young drivers with diesel pickups are out there turning everyones bumper gray/black. You did not say anything about young drivers but it was brought up. My truck will smoke if I get in it, but with the price of fuel (and common courtesy), I hardly do. I am not a resident of Commiefornia either, I reside in New York but I have to be here because I am stationed here in the Navy. I also know about these "enviro-idiots" ( I like that) and how they will most likely put all of this to a screeching halt.

You're right, and I apologize for generalizing. However, I do believe that if we continue to make these trucks get so much attention due to the smoke, we're just burning ourselve.

We will be burning ourselves, if we keep this up. And, furthermore, people need to understand its alright if thier truck does'nt smoke as much as Dave Mitchell's rig while on the street. Looking for more smoke is kind of strange is'nt it more like "looking for more power"?????

I don't know, I upgraded my truck with the ideal that when I got it done it would tow 8-10k lbs up a 6% grade and maintain 65-70mph, without nuking anything internal. I am almost there and with a couple more things I will be all set. What I am getting at is if you are looking for more power figure out what you want your truck to do/be used for when you are done. Looking for more smoke is not always putting power on the ground though. :-laf
