No smoke?

hi there, I recently picked up a 1st gen 92 cummins. I have turned the star wheel all the way as well as the smoke screw and I have no smoke. I am going to try the power screw next. the truck does accelerate nicely right now. I also have installed a stage 2 cold air so I wonder if I have the right air to fuel mix right now and that is why?

Check the condition of the afc valve and the line that feeds it.

ok so here is a new one. i have shortened the throtle arm to make the pedal more responsive, and now my OD kicks out when im on the freeway. is this a tps malfunction or does the tps not like the shortened cable and should i put it back?

I would guess TPS adjustment

Try reverting back and see if the issue is reversed.
