Building a utility trailer

Put the 5th wheel on the new 2005 yesterday, to test the clearance. I had some initial concerns, as the new 2005 sits about 2" higher, at the tailgate, then my 2001 did.

After hitching up, I had almost 5" of clearance at the tailgate and just over 5" at the front of the 5th wheel. This is just about exactly what I had on my 2001. Bottom line... Won't be doing the "spring-over. " ;)

I also noticed that the 3rd gens drop more with a load than my 01. 5 did. I also removed the rear axle spacers, which gained another 1. 25" at the rear axle and about 1. 5" at the tailgate. I'm very happy with the results.

Ken... I may still do this mod and I appreciate your great instructions on your site. After all the mods/installs I've done in the past week or so, I think I will take some time off to just let the truck settle in a bit. Got a trip scheduled for the Oregon coast this week... :)
