my truck went crazy on me a month ago. as it turned out, one of my little studs that the gov springs rest over was bent and caused it rev like hell! anyways i got a 160 pump from a friend and we did the swap last weekend. well i was waiting on a set of cores and got them tonight so i put her back together. i cant get it to start though. i definatly has fuel because i cracked open the 1st line and cranked it till i saw a steady amount of fuel coming out in bursts. could not having the right timing on the pump be the cause of the no start. we tried to get it timed but we really didnt know how to do it. we turned the motor till there was no lift on the #1 plunger. then we popped the gear off and moved it till there was about 6mm of lift. i think this was supposed to be 14* of timing.

let me know what you guys think this could be. im outa ideas and i had a short list to start with :-laf thanks

Try pinning both the pump and the engine using the timing pins. On the engine, its right by the Vac pump, on the pump itself its under the cap nut on the lower driver side of the pump. This should put you at stock timing, your timing could be 180° out.

Ben, the motor and pump are not timed, or they sound like there not. Call me if you need to after say 2:00PM central time and I'll talk you through it... ... my number is in your PM.
