Helping a friend with a fuel leak at the back of the pump. 89 d250 6bt. This truck ran fine before, just leaking fuel at the rear head. I pulled the pump and changed the rear seal o-ring only.
Now the truck wont start, kind of acts like it wants to hit, but it won't. Plenty of fuel out of the lines when i bleed them. The tailpipe is pushing a lot of black smoke out during cranking almost in sync with compression stokes. I checked the keyway on the pump (fine).
Tonight i pulled the pump back off and opened the back up to see if i had something wrong, but it looked right as far as i could tell
. Reinstalled the pump, rechecked the keyway, same story..... lots of black out the tail pipe when cranking, kind of hits but won't start, plenty of fuel at the injectors.
Then i thought maybe the injector pump gear jumped a tooth when i pulled the pump. So i took the front cover off... ... . dot to dots on the crank/cam and dot to "e" on the injector gear
I sure would appreciate any input from some of you VE experts. Whatever is wrong here, i did it, i just don't know what. This truck ran fine before, just leaked fuel
Thanks, Dave
