Has anyone looked in a parts manual to see if it lists a hose for the nipple? I don't have one available. I find it hard to believe this would be an engineered design if it really lets the water in.

Ok, looking at the 03 service manual, page 14-2, it appears that fitting is for a check valve on the gas-powered trucks. In gas applications, there is a hose that connects to that nipple and runs over to the "liquid expansion chamber". It's part of the evaporative emissions system, and there are actually 2 of them on the tank (one toward the front, as in the picture, and another toward the rear). It is UNUSED in the diesel application, and should be plugged. Perhaps DCTECH got one with the wrong nipple installed from the factory, and it wasn't plugged?

This must be a long bed issue. I know the tanks are different for long and short bed. I looked under mine and the fitting sits on top of a domed area, as opposed to a recess as shown in the picture above. There would be no way of getting water in the right angle fitting unless you absolutely drowned the truck. I'm not going to mess with mine. :)

Good job Ryan ! The same thing has happened to me, everybody should get some 1/4" fuel line and put it on the nipples on their trucks ASAP.

Guys..... is there any reason why you couldn't just put a short hose and plug on this port.....

In the winter we drive all our trucks in the slush..... and water... . I assume this gets splashed up to often for us... . and we've had no problems... . will the fuel cap vent the tank to allow the system to function as it should... .

I have recently R@R 2 tanks on 06 short beds and both of them had 10 inch hoses connected to both nipples on both trucks. (CTD 2500 & 3500 )
