My younger brother has a 1990 ctd He called me and said his truck will not start. i have not tore into it yeat but just wanted some ideas as where to start at???? And does this rotery pump have a fuel shut off silonoide?? and if it does where is it??? I have a fuel pressure guage to I know That is the first thing I need to check. Thanks Justin

Does the starter turn the engine over? If not, you might look at the fusible links especially if the fan blows but the engine lights do not light on the dash. Glen

The fuel solenoid is on the back of the pump with two wires attached to it. It is real common to have a wire come off or get dirty or corroded. Take the wires off and put wire terminals on them and attach them with the nut instead of the push on type connectors. These solenoid do fail but you can remove it and remove the plunger and reinstall it to see if it starts. You can use the manual shut down lever on the pump to kill it. If it is bad a solenoid from a VW will work and is a lot cheaper. Someone here will have the part number. It is the same one as our trucks but at a lower price.

Was it running and died, or did it fail to start? Has it been running normally or has he noticed declining performance? Glen

sortta??

He is in collage rite now and he came out to go to lunch and it would not start. Some times when he would start it it would start a little hard and run a little roughf 30-40 sec after firing then would clear out. Other than that it runs exelent has pleanty of pep. When I when and picked it up I cracked a injector line and hed him turn it over and it pumped some fuel out of the line. that is all the trouble shooting I have did. Justin
