This afternoon leaving the office I hit the remote start and after the 30-sec grid-heat delay I hear nothing but starter, no start. I disabled the remote and tried with the key - nothing. Noticed that the check engine light was blinking rapidly, and did not stop. Buddy with '01 CTD gave me a ride home where I grabbed the Smarty and came back. Couldn't read any codes. Decided to reload stock software. After that, every thing worked fine. Well, I did miss my snappy throttle response. I was able, after the reload of the stock software to check for codes, but none were present. Probably due to the updated ECM I suppose.

Similar thing happened last weekend but at least she started after a 5-6 seconds of starter engagement.

Smarty, (on level 3), AFE Stage 2, and an EGT are the only things not stock.

I guess I'll try reloading Smarty tomorrow, but I'm concerned the symptoms will repeat. Anyone experience similar??

Nope, no fuel pressure gauge.

TIPM?? Not familiar with that acronym. Prior to last weekend and Friday, I've never experinced a start requiring more than a second or two of starter cranking. Unless really cold out and I forgot the pre-heat time.

I have not reloaded the Smrty yet, but truck is running normally since yesterday with a half-dozen or so start ups.

Update, Sunday afternoon. No-start problem persists. Check Engine light on. Code is: P2509, "Power Down data loast" Dont' know what that means quite yet. But every time I clear the code it comes right back.

Update a little later Sunday afternoon. I searched on the trouble code and then went to look at my truck.

I found a verrry loose ground connection at the battery; not the block/chassis ground but a dedicated ground wire, much smaller gauge than the primary. The wire appears to run into the ECM wire harness. I haven't had a chance to really chace it down but it sure look like it mergers with a bundle going to the ECM.

I also found a bundle chafing on the upper radiator hose clamp. I doubt that it could ground thru the clamp but I rerouted it slightly to remove the riding condition anyway.

The crank for 5-6 seconds sounds normal for the 06 at times. At least normal for the manual trans. I know mine has down it at times for the last 20K miles. I see this at least once per week. THey reflashed it to fix it, but it did not make a difference. Seems to accure when temps are right above what ever temp turns on the wait to start light.

Before your last post I was going to say power/ground ,
You have to be extreamly cautious about grounds & computer , if the computer loses a grd. connection , it will find one , and not where you want , This is the most comin way a computer dies , looking for a grd. when it loses the intended one , more often than not the new grd. is a internal short in the computer-dead-short- .

Happy to report that Smarty gave me the capability to read the trouble codes and this forum gave me the keys to know what to look for. I'm pretty sure the problem is solved at this point. Thanks to all who contribute to this knowledge base; it saved me a trip to the dealer and a couple days with a loaner car. (wouldn't be so bad if they loaned out an equivalent vehicle, but I don't want to drive a front wheel drive anything!!)
