hey guys I have a 1990 and when it gets cold truck will not crank over seems like battery is dead it is a new battery also put a a shut off switch on the battery and still will not crank over need help thanks

Won't crank--cranks slowly---more of how it acts. Is the battery big enough and enough power for your rig. Other than won't crank. When was the last time you changed the oil? Using straight weight oil? multi-wt-viscosity? And where are you at for the cold temps? Do you have a block heater? if so plug that in for a few hours.
Fill out your profile on you vehicle and give us more info on you and yours.

Might be time for a new starter or a starter rebuild. Load test the battery and make sure it is good first.

the colder it gets the harder it cranks I did put a new starter on it it seems like after I put it on this is when I had the problem but it was put on in summer when I got truck it fired right off in winter what do they recommend for CCA

Did you put on a "new" starter or a reman? The quality on some remans is not good, not unusual to see one bad right out of the box.

10o0-1100 CCA is what is needed for a single whne cold. Two batteries wil give you longer crank times. When it is warm a single 900 CCA is fine until it gets chilly then they slow way down.

The last rebuilt starter I bought was several years ago for the 88 Ford gasser pickup I had at the time. It seemed fine at first but after a few months it got to the pint where it would barely turn over, sometimes not at all.
I removed it and when I shook it sounded like a bucket of bolts. Upon further inspection the bushing at the end of the drive gear was so far out of round that it was cocking the internal part of the starter when it engaged, hence locking it up.
It was total junk and I refused a replacement from the parts store because originally I asked for the best quality unit they sold. I got my money back and never bought another thing from them.
