No start....

Jumped in the truck Saturday after it had sat for about 2 hours and turned the key... . Nothing there, all the lights came on and everything looked normal. Tried smacking the starter with hammer and checked battery cables. Still no start. Finally after 10 minutes of scratching my head it popped right off. Any ideas on what it could be? I checked to see if the red security light was on and it wasn't. Also tried my wife's key that has a newer battery and it didn't start it either. I'm stumped.

Sometimes, the truck does not recognize the key fob. I had a issue with that early on, my dealer flashed the system, and have had no problems since.

Be careful with using a hammer on a permanent-magnet starter. It usually sends them to an early grave.
