I am looking for a compromise that will allow me to run with the OEM suspension but still not make me the laughing stock of the Mud bog races... .

Is there such an animal?

I really don't want to go wild on lift as the stock 2500's are already tall. If there is a tire that will work on the stock 4x4 suspension and be effective in mud that is what I am looking for.

I will probably lift the front end 2" to match the unloaded rearend. If I lift the rear I have to move my traction bars which is something I prefer not to do.

Thanks for any input in advance. National dealer (internet) suggestions would be good too.

Mid August bogging in Vermont, if my Clutch is ready by then!!

David, I'm assuming you are talking Lyndonville in mid August. The tallest skinniest tire you can fit would be the best for their pit. It has a nice bottom, and with the weight of the Cummins up front, you need to get down to the bottom as quick as possible. The pits in NE are not as deep or as sticky as what My6 talks about, but still can be tricky. Also be aware of the races Aug 5 at Champlain Expo center, Sept 3 in Canaan, NH, and Oct 8 in Springfield, VT. Look me up at any of these events. "Mudder Superior" Pro Mud Racer... . 632 cid, lots of N2O!

Hi David, you caught the bug again uh?LOL
I ran 12,50x33 m/t at stock level, with a 2" you can run the same tires as me, 35x12. 50x 16. 5. I'm not sure about metric but I am going to get some Super Swamper Boggers they are the ultimate in DOT legal mud tires I had a set a couple of years ago 35x16x16. 5 but may go with a narrower 14. 5 next. They do make a 33" also. Good luck I'm sure we'll talke before then.
Adam
ps they also work real well for pulling

Buckshot muder makes a radial thak is skiny and 33 or 34 inches tall. Check out national tire and wheel for pictures and the sizes. I had 33's on mine when it was stock. From what I hear the buckshots are not that bad on the street and they are designed to fit on the stock rims.

DavidVT,If you really want to get down and dirty with a skinny tire, then go with the Super Swampers in the 34x9x16 or the 34x9. 50x16. 5. <font color=blue>

Got the itch but need a clutch and tires.

Lyndonville is my first goal, if I can get ready for it. (read that: if I can get home long enough: Phoenix,Austin,CamasWA. )

Looking for all the help I can glean from this site and any others you all might suggest.

Truck will be stock but for injectors and hot PE, tires minimal lift and the traction bars... .

Swampers. Boggers if you are only useing them for the mud. If you will be driveing on them much Raidial tsl's. Thats my Idea on the subject.

The best way to get good tire wear is to mount the real aggressive tires on another set of wheels and do the swap when it's MUDDIN' TIME!<font color=blue>

Wowzy That is what I do. At close to $800 a set I don't want to buy a new set every 10 months. I only got 15000 miles out of the thornbirds I had that I ran eyery day.

As I am new to the bog thing, can you experienced folks tell me if I need bead locks on my rims? What tire pressure works best in the bogs?

I plan to have the tires on their own rims so I can make them last. I want to the rims that will get the job done but don't care too much about flash.

Are their any websites that focus on the bog racing?

No web sites that I have found. Look for a set of stock rims. The narower the better because it sucks the side walls of the tires in and lets you dig down to the bottom. As soon as I finish smokeing off the street tires the 36's are going on the stock rims and I'm going to try the goodyear wrangler ats's on the 16x8 inch rims. The tire that has been winning my class so far is the 34 9. 5 tsl swamper. My thought was that with the weight of my truck (7300) I would be able to push the 36 12. 5 down beter than a 4000 pound gaser. The only way to get ground clearence under the axle is to increase tire size. Are you going to make it to Ted's on the 12?

I run the fronts at 35 and the rear at 30. I don't want the side wall buldge you get with the lower pressure. No bead locks on mine.

Tom

I suggest the Mickey Thompson Baja Claws in a 35x13. 50R16. I'm running them on 16x8 wheels with no lift other than 2" spacers. With the stock suspension, they won't rub. I went to Assateague Island here in Maryland last weekend and drove on the beach. I actually tried to power myself down into the sand to test the tractive ability of the new meats. I couldn't get it stuck! If they work in sand that well, they'll make you proud in the bogs too. My first excursion into real mud will be in three weeks.

I'll have to throw my vote in for the best DOT legal mud tire... Super Swamper Boggers.
Second Choice: Super Swamper TSL's
Third Choice: Super Swamper Thornbird's

Do you see a pettern staring to develop here... LOL

if you are only gonna run them while bogging I'd definitely get super swamper boggers, 35's although they are very wide and may rub, Boggers simply cannot be beat in the mud. would you consider a 2 inch spacer in the front? this would likely clear the boggers and would level out the truck getting rid of the "rake" You don't need beadlocks for mud I'd just get some crappy white spoke cheap steel rims for that. I am running 34. 5 inch tall, 13. 5 wide Baja claws with no lift (still haven't gotten around to putting spacers in). since this combo does not rub and I still have a little room I would say a 35x14. 50 bogger on an 8 inch rim with stock backspacing would just squeeze in there, it would be very close and if it did rub it would only be at or very near full steering lock. if you know someone at a tire shop who would mount one up on the front you could turn the wheel side to side and see for yourself. If the boggers would squeeze in I would use them, they really are the best DOT legal mud tire ever

Yes the Boggers will be the best however the sizes are completely screwed up for it to be easy to choose a size. A guy with a Dodge 2500 v10 tried to run the 35x16x16. 5's Boggers on a 9. 75 wheel with a leveling kit and they touched the lower corner pretty bad. He put the tire on a 8. 25 wheel and missed the lower corner but hit the bulge of the inner fender when he cut the wheels back and forth. Anything more than a speed bump would've ripped the inner fender off because how far the outer cleats stick out. Two more inches of lift would probably let him clear them on the 9. 75's. The 35x14. 50's weren't available back then.

I just saw an advertisement in 4WHEEL&OFF ROAD where the BOGGERS will have a 37x13. 00x16. 5 and 16 real soon! Another option is the new size for the Swamper SSR 285-75-16 (8ply). The SSR's are not as agressive as the other Swampers, but gives you a descent size to choose. Anyone know what the demensions of the Q78-16 Swamper are?

David, like I said my extra set is going to be boggers, 35x14. 50x16. 5's on whitespokes x 9. 75 painted rebel black. I'm starting to like the narrow tire thing more as I get into these things more.
I don't air down at all and no bead locks.
I ran the 35x16x16. 5 boggers before with my 3"lift with no problems but I'm not wanting the extra weight anymore.

Thanks for the inputs. .

As to the 2" spacers, do I needs other suspension parts to do the2" coil spacer or is it ok to just add the spacers alone?

Tires guys are telling me to get the tires siped to help the heat buildup when driving on the pavement. Any opinions? or should I just stay with two sets of rims (street/bog)?

Adam,
I think you start in 3rd gear, do you suggest this for a truck without the nitros and propane?
