Hi thanks for the info havn't had time to look into the problem yet ,do you know a way i can check out to make sure the senser is bad before i purchase one and if after market products work ok 'TAHNKS

Hello Do You Happen To Know About The Voltage On The Sensor I Have 5 Volts On The Outside Terminals 0 On The Center Wire With The Ignition On Any Info Appreciated

The 5VDC is the reference voltage from the pcm. This sounds right. One line should go to ground. The third line, the output line should switch between o and 5 VDC each time the notch in the damper passes the sensor. You can observe this output with a voltmeter by disconnecting the fuel shutdown valve connection (so the engine does not start), and then cranking the engine over with the starter, This is obvously a two person operation.

Sorry I don't have my manual with me for color codes.

Does the wait to start light come on when you turn the key? If not, unplug sensor then try. Light on, sensor bad. Still no light, look at the PCM and related wiring starting cheap and working your way to most expensive(PCM). Luck,Jon.

Try cleaning connector and checking for loose or broken pins in the connector to the Engine speed sensor (rpm sensor, crank speed sensor) before replacing it.

Check to make sure gap is correct (4-5, business cards).

Good point about the connector.

I have to keep mine held together with a nylon tye lock. Also the gap is important.

As previously pointed out on the site, the main reason these things (hall effect switch) fail is because the magnetic field decreases with age. The gap is supposed to be . 050" but a credit card (about . 030) will sometimes make up for the lost field.
