I need help with fix on a tc that will not stay locked up in or out of od, there are no faults locked in the pmc, truck is a 99 with 59k not ever worked hard. One note with normal tx service 6qts are need instead of 1. 5qts per page21-269 in manual , could there be an internal leak from tc also the faster you go the longer the tc stays locked

When you say the TC will not stay locked up what are the conditions? Steady throttle? Acceleration? Coast?

The amount of ATF needed depends on how long the truck sits before it's serviced. If it's drained hot it will take a lot less than if it sits all night in your garage.

At steady state crz. from 48mph to 65mph thre is a constant cycle of 100 to 150 rpm as tc locks and unlocks , at or above 65 it seems to stay locked until you accelerate calling for a normal unlock

Check with a dealer to see if your truck needs anything reflashed. The TPS could be the problem or the kickdown cable adjustment.

The TSB Stefan gave is correct. Had the same problem on mine and has been without problem for the past 6 months. Don't let them lead you down the path that your transmission needs a rebuild.

tc now locks up

I replaced the temp and press sensor no help , dealer did TSB 18-02-99 and that fixed it ,,thanks to all of you for the help !

Had a similiar problem with my 96. If you were driving at hwy speed and depressed the brake for any reason the TC would unlock and stay that way. You would have to slow down and come up with the pedal hard to get it to hook up. Dodge changed the TPS unit, did not make any differance. It still does it to this day, but not as bad. It now has 175K on it. I think when the transmission was rebuilt by dodge, they failed to fill the transmission to correct level on the dip stick. I had them check it more than once.

I finally had to tell them to check it in Neutural and not Park. In Park it will show full when 3qts low. In Neutural it would show correctly. I really think it was a internal problem with the transmission.

It was correct electrically.

The other 96 I have also disengages the TC lock up when you step on the brake at hwy speed. It re-engages as soon as you touch the pedal. Mine is still a mystery.
