my 99 is running just fine and then there is no throttle response for about 15 seconds and the check engine lite comes on. Then it works ok and the check engine lite stays on for about 3 start cycles and then its out as well. Any ideas out there???? this one has me baffled.

i had an 01 while driving it would just go to an idle then check engine light came on. throttle position sensor was out... . if i messed with the throttle it would start workin again and might not do it for several days.

o2 same prob/need help

I have an 02, & same prob. Driving to work, & the engine went to idle, & the engine light came on. Stopped the truck, then the engine would work but the light stays on.

Help?

To know what is happening, you need toknow the codes that are set. Non serious codes stay on till three start cycles. That is what is happening there. I think that Auto Zone will read your codes for you. Don't think the ignition key thing works on a 99. At least it didn't on mine.

My 02 has the same problem.

No throttle under 1800 rpm. I have reset way too many times and can't afford to be down in the middle of a FEMA run south.

What are the options to fix? Can it be cleaned or adjusted or do I have to replace?

Thanks

Cycle the key 3 times and get the codes first. If it shows up as any APPS code, replace.

Throttle Position Sensor

Who has the best pricing?

Can you get them after market or from Cummins?

I priced one yesterday from my dealer at $450.

Ouch.

dealer

Mine went to dealer yesterday.

I'm thinking about building up a "stamp" computer , as a PLC and making my own.

If I get it to work, I'll post the results.

Dave.

Anyone know an affordable convert to the 7100 pump??

The posts here are all good ones. I have seen or experienced just about all of them at one time or another. I suggest you should pull the codes because only then will you know what to replace. The throttle response you mentioned happened to me, and it was the VP44. The APPS, and MAP sensors can give the same type of performance problem. That is why checking the codes is important.
