Here is a good one , the throttle quits responding on my 99 24 Valve, the CHECK ENGINE light comes on, then after i try to accelerate again, there is nothing until I depress the pedal twice, then it responds again. If it runs throuogh 4 start cycles the CHECK ENGINE light goes off until it does it again.

I took it into the local dealer to check the code and got the following Codes P1639,P1682,P0500,P0122,P01765,P0121 and P1693. What does allthis mean and is there a simple fix?? I'm inclined to believe that it could be a throttle sensor?? Anyhelp would be appreciated.

Thanks Terry

tps

it was the TPS for me, same issues your having, dealer changed it under warrentry at 16,000 miles, havent had problems since..... Jeremy

I just replaced the accelerator pedal position sensor (APPS) a couple of months ago. Got it to reset, but crapped out again. No repairing it... just gotta replace it for $400. 00. Must be common item to go bad cause two small town %-Stars had 'em in stock.

Disconnect batteries before removing old unit. Easy to replace, once you complete install and get batteries reconnected turn ignition key to run position (do not start!). Very slowly depress accelerator pedal to floor and slowly release it. That recalibtrates the ECM.

You should have set a code and check engine light (not sure if this works on a 99 the same as 02). Check your trouble codes.

Ahhh he did post all the codes he had read out of his vechicle. There are battery/charging problems as well as APPS and MAP and Trans. All tie back to volatage problems in my opnion.

Here is the list:

P1639 - does not exist in the list I have, might be 1693??

P1682 - Charging System Voltage Too Low Charging system output voltage low

P0500 - No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal No vehicle speed sensor signal detected during road load

conditions or No Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal A vehicle speed signal was not detected. Very common with high idle.

P0122 - Accelerator Position Sensor (APPS)

Signal Voltage Too Low

APPS voltage input below the minimum acceptable

voltage.

P01765 - trans 12 Volt Supply Relay CTRL

Circuit

An open or shorted condition is detected in the

Transmission Relay control circuit. This relay supplies

power to the TCC

P0121 - Accelerator Position Sensor (APPS)

Signal Voltage Too Low

APPS voltage input below the minimum acceptable

voltage.

P1693 - the catch all code that means noting.

JR2: Thats what I get for posting early in the morning.

I stand corrected. With all those codes being related to voltage, I would check electrical syst too. P1693 is the PCM code that means the ECM has triggered codes. The PCM (Dodge) can't read ECM (Cummins) codes so only triggers the one code.

Run new ground to computer

Run a new ground to the computer directly from the battery. You will be surprised how many problems go away.

In addition to battery and grounding issues. If your alternator is older worn brushes (bouncing) will cause this kind of multi-code problem. This problem may not be detected by an alternator output test.
