I am sure this has been asked before, but going down road 60-70 mph and then stepping on throttle to pass sometimes ther is no response at all. Dealer checked out codes and said needed new transfer pump. Put FASS 95 on instead of intank and still same problem. New code P1693 came up. probably need new VP 44, but want to check with TDR b4 spending the cash. called cummins dealer in Bloomington Il. and they said to bring it in next week and they'll figure it out. hoped it could be something one of you had expierenced

before. Isuggested the tps to the dodge dealer but he just dismissed that.

Any help greatly appreaciated! 63000 miles already went round &round over warranty

If they want to change the 44 under warr. ,let them. your next mod is def. a fuel press guage! All VP trucks need them! 1693 is a companion, so cycle the key three? times and pull codes then go to TDR FAQ and check #s. AUTO or STICK??

It could be fuel pressure issues, but it is more likely the Vp44. Look for code 0216.

I bet it is the vp and it is the computer on it going TU.

Most of the time it is ok to drive it, it won't leave you stranded, just annoying.

Thanks guys, dodge won't honor the warranty, says its expired. code p0216 did come up, dealer said it was timing on vp, but have never had vp off. The truck has a 6 speed . By the way the 216 was a old code

This page helped me determine I need a new pump. If you scroll to the bottom, it can help you with the codes. Mine threw the 1688 and this page says that a 1688 ALWAYS means bad VP. My new VP is on the way. Good luck with your troubleshooting.

Its definately the VP44 from what you decribe. I have put literally over 100 vp44s on and about 10% of them have this problem you are having. You should go ahead and get the Lightning VP44 from Scheid. It is awesome. I have tried a couple other hot rod vp44s from other companies, but the Scheid pump is the best in my opinion. It has a cool idle also. Pretty lopey, unless they've smoothed it up lately.
