No trailer brakes

Last week I hooked up to my old trailer. I noticed the lights did not work and then noticed no brakes. I found that the wiring was just a little to short and that I had pulled some of the wires loose on a sharp turn. The next time I needed the trailer I tried to re-do the wiring. I added about six inches to the wires, but I did not know where each wire went. I was trying to hook up the brake and ground wire first. With my wife pushing the brake I touched these two wires to the #1 and #2 terminals. Nothing happened so I reversed them. I heard the electric brakes click on the trailer once, but they would not do it again. I gave up and got my newer trailer. I hooked it up and had brake and turn lights but no running lights or trailer brakes. I replaced the 40 amp odd looking fuse under the hood, but I still don't have trailer brakes. My Jordan controller still reads 8. 88. Where do I start to fix this?

Sounds like you blew a fuse in the junction block on the left side of the dash. Open the driver door and its right there. Start pulling fuses and see what popped.

Next I would have someone step on the brake and see if your getting voltage at the plug. I like to use one of those screw drivers with the light bulb in the handle and a wire with an alligator clip coming out the end. Clip the alligator clip to the receiver hitch and check the flat connector at the 5 o'clock position and see if there is voltage. If not check in the PDC at fuse #8 . It's a 40 A . I could not find a blown fuse on the inside fuse box. I do not have

voltage at the trailer plug. I have changed the 40 amp fuse in the PDC. I swapped the trailer relay out and still no voltage at the plug. I don't know what to check next. JC

I have voltage at the 40 amp fuse in the PDC. I don't have power on the trailer brake wire under the dash. I checked this at the plug in harness. Is there a fusible link that could be burned out? Would it be okay to run a fuse and wire directly from the battery to the Jordan box? Anyone have any comments on this? JC

Don't take this the wrong way but... ... check the green 40 amp fuse under the hood. I know you already changed it but it is possible that it blew again when you re-connected the wiring. Remember that you can tell whether it is blown by looking in through the little window on the fuse. If your truck came with the factory tow package then the only way you could lose power is to blow that fuse. No other fusible links.



BTW, on the little door that covers the 7 pin conector on the back of the truck you will find a wire diagram that showswhich terminal does what. It should be molded onto the front. Use that to check the wiring in the future. Good luck

I replaced the fuse, used a stick to hold down the brakes. My brake lights on the truck were on. I used a test light to check for power on the contact for brakes, identified by that diagram on the plug cover. No power. The turn lights,backup light and the positve terminal all worked, but no power on the electric brakes.

I used a tester on the fuse and the terminal that it plugs into, and had power. I then checked for power where the plug under the dash is. I only have three wires hooked to the Jordan controller. The one for brakes had no power. JC
