No Turbo Silencer ring= low boost??

I just recently reinstalled the turbo silencer ring and found the boost is up about 2 to 3 psi. Am I seeing something that isnt there? Is there another cause? Or did Cummins Holset install the silencer to smooth out the air flow? (Is it possible that the manufacturer knows what they are doing?)The turbo noise is less noticable #ad
But the boost is up #ad
Any tecnical input would be appreciated.

According to Holset the silencer ring is there just to silence and has nothing to do with the psi. Perhaps a clamp was loose and got tightened more when you replaced the silencer ring which could explain an increase in psi. Other than that I don't know.

I would have to agree, the ring does nothing other than silence the whistle. good or bad, nothing at all.

what do you think you did by putting it back in? and why did you put it back in?

I reinstalled the silencer ring just to see if there is a differnce. I would also be amazed if there was any differnce at the gague. But there was. On my tractor puller I polished the inner diameter of the compressor housing. The theory being the less turbulence the better. My own experiance woth vilocity stacks on a dual 4 bbl small block chev would prouve that a smoother airflow is better??
