2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission No windshield wiper speed control

1st rainy day in months and the wiper controller doesn't work. Hi or low speed will not work. All other functions work fine. Any ideas on what's wrong? Is the trouble likely to be in the control stalk or the multi-function switch buried in the steering column? Any help would be appreciated.

When I bought my truck, I had no intermitent function. The previous owner had unhooked all the warning chimes for the key in ignition and headlights on, etc. The wipers are tied in to the chimes somehow. I had the dealer hook it all back together. Hope this helps.
