can I swap out my factory Infinity tweeters for a higher quality aftermarket tweeter and mount it in same place, without cutting up my a-pillar? Thanks for any and all help!

Sure why not, the tweeter in the A piller simply snaps out, the aftmkt tweeter will work as long as it is the same size or you can also inlarge the hole a bit too.

cheers, Kevin

Beef it up!!

Apart from the obvious equivalent dimensions being a factor ;) in swapping out OEM for 3rd party, my own experience suggests that the tweeter support area in the stock A-pillar (and for some gauge enabled after market A-pillars too!) is a bit on the basic side and does not lend itself to a super secure mounting once disturbed. You should seriously consider reinforcing the rear mounting flange area, to make this a "do it once and then forget about it" install.

I had the same question. I could not find any aftermarket tweets that would fit. Good ones were longer and wider.

Has anyone done an upgrade to the whole Infinity system. The local stereo shops are telling me I have to junk the factory radio because it uses amps in the door speakers to work and all the aftermarket stuff is not compatable with it.

Is this true?

I don't use the tweeters right now,, but you could mount the tweeter from componet speakers in the A-Pillar.

I had to upgrade the complete system. I got the same words from my Mobile Audio store. It was alot of money, and I don't think you have to upgrade it all,, but once you do,,, there is NO comparison to stock. It is worth the money if you listen to the radio/cd's alot.

Hope this helps,

So true So true..... It is all junk. Wires are too small to carry signal from aux amp. Everything needs to be changed out... .

I have done a complete upgrade to my Infinity system with the following components:

Front- 4 Diamond Hex 1” Silk Dome tweets & 2 6. 5” Diamond Hex woofers

Rear- 2 5. 25” Diamond Hex Mids

Amp-Xtant A4004T

Sub – I am undecided at this time.

I have had quite a few compliments on the staging with the 4 tweeters in front.

YES! It can be done...

I am running MBQuart seperates with the tweeters fitting just fine in the stock a-pillar locations. Naturally all new wiring was done as well. I also have two dual SPA guages on the a-pillar so there is a lot of wiring running through there. It will all fit with some patience and finese.

What do you want to upgrade? Speakers? Deck?

You can swap out the factory deck without too much problem.

The infinity speakers don't sound too bad (relative) with a decent deck. You will have to supply power to the speakers though. Usually the power antenna lead on the new deck will work.

CFAR

I really would like to keep the radio deck setup. add about a 100 watt equalizer/booster, better tweets and a sub woffer. I did this to my 1990 ctd and it sounded much better and only cost about $300 in parts.

Now I cant even find equalizer boosters, just amps.

Any ideas??? Bill

Most factory decks usually have a built in amp and usually no preamp outputs so if you try to hook them up to an external amp you will usually eventually blow one or the other.

One long sentence with 3 USUALLYs in it. A new record.

Sorry I couldn't help more, I like the infinities, just not the stock deck.
