Noise at start-up

Hey guys, my dad has an 04, 4x4, 6spd, bone stock, 30k miles. Well, every once and a while when he starts his truck up, there's a weird noise. Almost like the turbo barks. No engine codes are on, truck drives and opperates normal, but that noise is driving him crazy. Any ideas? Should he be worried? Thanks, Buck

My 04. 5 makes a clunking kinda noise if it has sat for awhile. I am sure the "clunk" is the air conditioning compressor engaging. Is that the noise?

My A/C clutch also sounds nasty the first time you start it after its sat for a day or two. Thought it was just mine, but heard an 06 that did it the other day. Maybe that is what he is hearing?

yeah that might be it. i've heard it too. it's always after it has been sitting for a while. so he shouldn't be to worried about it then?

If it's the A/C compressor clunk, no there's no reason to be concerned. No matter how much it sounds like the compressor is going to leap out of the hood.
