Need a little advice. I have developed a noise, kind of a chatter, or growl coming from the differential (I believe). This happens intermittently, always when starting to roll and most noticable turning to the left. (I may not be able to hear it --- if it is happening going down the road. )

I'm running the "Power-Trac" 4. 10, with Amsoil 70W140 Synthetic, which says that it has the "friction modifier". I checked the fluid, at least the level, and it's full. Probably my next move will be to flush and re-palace with Mopar, and do a few tight turns. Although, this is the procedure in the manual for "chatter", I don't see how the Mopar fluid will cure the problem when the Amsoil won't.

Has anyone had a simular problem or any advice/watch-outs?

Go and do five or six tight figure eights and listen for your noise. If it is coming from the rear diff. start adding an ounce or two of friction modifier until it stops.

Ditto on abledog.
If that does not fix it, do not waste money on other oil, you have a mechanical problem.

M. Poland,

I have Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 in my rear end. I was getting a little chatter around corners. I added a 4oz bottle of limited slip additive. Noise went away.

Amsoil is one of the only rear end lubes that I only needed to add 1 bottle of 'whale oil'.

Red Line & Torco both come with the limited slip already added. Both chattered so bad I put the recommended amount of additive ,as if the lube had none in it!. I still never could get rid of all the poping.

1 4oz bottle should quiet it down. Get the stuff from the Dodge dealer. It's the best.
