I live in a quiet part of this town in a small gated apartment building. So far 2 people have called the landlord complaining that my truck is too loud. This really started before I even straight piped it. I explained to the landlord that the truck is a diesel and it inherently loud. I can not pus an 11k pound truck up the drive and the truck has to idle for it to move. I also told him that the truck has to be idled after a long trip so that the turbo can cool down or damage may result. Now I remember why I hate living in the city around these types of people. I still think it's fun and I'm still going to operate my truck like it's supposed to be operated, although I'll try to keep from letting it idle for extended periods.

Hope ya'll don't have the same kinds of problems. Fortunately, I'm going to be moving soon anyway. ;)

Crank it up a couple times...

if you set off enough of those anal-retentive folks' car alarms, they'll never hear your truck.

:--)

How about this, let it idle and cool off down the street. Then get it going pretty good and then shut it down and coast into the apartment complex :-laf Another approach might be to find out who is complaining and idle it for a couple of hours outside their apartment :D How about this, find out who is complaining and stop by and talk to them letting them know that you will try and keep the noise to a minimum, that diesels are loud and that you are planning on moving soon. ;) I would also get a locking fuel cap, just in-case. :(

Get locking fuel cap...

before talking with anyone. If you are not romping on it, yet they are complaining, odds are talking won't do any good. Some people don't like diesels and you WON'T change their minds. Some are just totally unreasonable; hence the locking fuel cap.

Tree huggers

Sounds like you got some of those local California tree huggers moved in next to you. Around here you can't even go to the store without some smart @$$ tree hugger coming up to you and making comments about your truck. It's to big, to loud, to much smoke your polluting the air, OH it's a 4x4 so you must go out and start fires and kill the bushes, turtles, frogs. etc. etc. etc.

I'm sure you watched the news where here in CA. they burned all the auto dealers that sold trucks, SUV's and Hummers. They are getting carried away. That might be who put all the dings down the side of my truck.

People complain daily about the smoke and noise, that's it I'm outa here... ..... Later... ... ...  :D

Move to SW Missouri. No tree huggers, or if there are, they are to scared to open their mouths. If you make $200,000 a year in California you can afford the same life style in SW Missouri for 1/3 that amount. Plus Dodge CTD's are all over the place.

Well, all I can say is that these folks need to get a life. I'm hoping to be moving soon anyway and when I do, you can bet I'm going to let my truck idle the entire time I'm loading up just to pi** them off. :D I would try to coast in but where the pace is, you have to drive up a big hill to get there adn personally I don't feel like pushing 11000 #'s uphill.

It's a good thing you live where it is warm. Someone unplugged my truck last winter at the apartment I was living at. The 3-cylinder @ 1200 rpms at 6:30-7:00 in the morning makes quite a noise! Never had a problem with my truck being unplugged after that.....

BTW, there were a few people that were up and trying to get to their cars, but they couldn't see them due to the cloud of smoke. :D I think it was -20^ out that morning.

Pits right. No treehuggers just us hillbillies and our CTD's. There are now 5 of us here at work with them. I do get an occasional dirty look at a stoplight when someone in their econo box gets a little to close to my 5 inch exhaust and has their window down. I am a little concerned about groups of those tree nazi's wanting to prevent me from riding my horses and mules in the National Forest. Our Rangers really support those of us with equines and have given me maps and instructions on how to find riding areas as well as old county roads that are no longer in service. If those trails are allowed to grow up no one will be able to get access into the forest if there is a fire.

If they complained about the truck before it was modified with the "improved" exhaust... they will complain about anything that moves anyway, and still drive that stupid SUV that burns more gallons a mile than your truck does.

I've been concerned with my neighbors too - the guy across the street had his daughter marry a guy with a dodge diesel... unfortunetly the FOOL got rid of it and went back to gas. I think he doesn't really care for my truck either, but never has said anything. My other neighbor has somewhat given me dirty looks when pulling up the driveway.

So the real question is - will someone ever get sued driving a stock truck?

Hopefully when you move you'll end up next to neighbors that own a diesel or will be converted.

I just tell them the noise is a tiny price to pay for all that power. Fortunately they don't get to enjoy the power part:D :D :D

Tell them you comply with all noise laws and if they don't like it to do us both a favor and remove themselves from society... There's a cabin in the middle of nowhere for them, Ted doesn't need it anymore...

I guess I'm lucky! Where I live (rural town southeast of Seattle), your Ram or Super Duty only gets a second glance if it doesn't have a Diesel engine!

I swear, I live in the Diesel powered light truck capitol of the world! :D

Close. Houston may be in a close second place. I believe 95% of the 2500/3500 class Rams and 90% of the Ferd SD class trucks have diesels in them around these parts. There are fewer Duramaxes than I would have anticipated, but then that speaks for itself.

My neighbors do not complain either. I've flat out asked them if the noise bothers them, and they say they have no problem with the noise *when* they hear it. I also have a diesel Volvo that has a pretty decent clatter, with no complaints. And these aren't old folks!

I will say this though, even though it's "apples to oranges. " When my (now) wife and I were dating, she lived in an apartment complex that had a nightclub directly across the street from the part she lived in. Some of the yuppie patrons rode Harley's to the club. Straight piped ones. Now, I love Harleys... but at 2am after a hard day... REVVVV, blat blat blat, REVVVVV, blat blat blat blat blat, followed by a full throttle launch through 3 or 4 gears, well, it just isn't always cool. She moved to the other side of the complex and the problem was solved.

Reb, sounds like your landlord needs to shuffle some of his residents to other parts of the complex... that way they're not bothered by the "big bad loud truck. "

Sounds like you need to pick up a Harley or Indian for an alternative mode of transportation to the Dodge.

Most important, be sure take the manager out for a ride on your new bike. :p :p :p :p :p

:-laf Try setting the exhaust brake too, the 1200RPM, 3cylinders, and brake make for a unGodly rumble :-laf But the truck sure warms up FAST.

Neither of my trucks has a muffler and both have E brakes, now my 'neighbors' at the junction wont wave back any more  There is a long downhill stretch and curve to turn onto my street, just perfect for an E brake slowdown.

Ignore them and they WILL go away. My neighbors complained for 3 or 4 months to each other and any time they complained to me the answer was: "I'm sorry you feel that way, but I can only afford one vehicle and need this one. If you want to buy me another vehicle I'd be happy to drive any time I don't really need a truk. " They all stopped complaining to me and each other... and a few now have an envy problem.

I do the coast for a couple blocks and its usually cool by the time I hit the drive... the only exception is when the trailer is behind it... and they complained about the trailer too (don't like it parked in the street in front of the house, but the locals cops don't have any problems with it), although a couple want to use the trailer now. We should all TRY to be considerate, but no matter how obnoxious other may find one starting at 6am, when you have to go to work you have to go. Again, neighbors no longer complain and most of us get along pretty well at this point.

people grow used to the sound. My open window is right above the truk and occasionally someone else will go to move it... I don't even hear it anymore.

I'm sure glad their are others out there with these types of stories. I never have this trouble at home. I have two neighbors, one with a CTD and the other with a Duramax, but work is a different story. The other day, this lady sat in her car for a couple of minutes, waiting to tell me off for letting "That smoking piece of junk run and stink up the parking lot". She went on to tell me that I could be more considerate of others "feelings" and drive another vehicle to work because it is offensive to her. I just quietly reminded her not to park behind me any more because it is kinda hard to see that honda civic in the mirrors when you try to leave at night. I would not want to "forget" and back up or something.

Wow some women are weird. I don't think you would find a man doing this, he would be afraid that some other guy might clean his clock. Sounds like you let her know that she was screwing with the wrong guy.
