Drive it easy the last mile home. As long as you aren't all uphill home, or pulling a big trailer home, you are probably cool enough to shut down when you get there. Cooldown idle is more for shutdown in hot weather after a long pull on the e-way, running with a load, after a long up-hill, etc.

It doesn't sound like you need to waste your time or fuel idling when you get home, say from work. The neighbors will apreciate it too.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I live in a nice neighborhood and have good neighbors. One reason for that is that I try to be as considerate of them as I can. My driveway is below one neighbor's bedroom window; therefore, I try not to pull the truck out of the garage early Saturday morning and do a lot of idling in the driveway. Same thing applies late at night - I'll run it easy for a few blocks before I get home and run it straight into the garage. When I do, pre-turbo EGT is normally 200 or 250 degF, and I can go ahead and shut it down.

Flame away if you wish, but I don't appreciate being awakened in the middle of the night by a subwoofer, a Harley or even a Cummins. Because of this, I try to show my neighbors the same consideration.

My closest neighbor (~400 yds) has a 2x4 3500 CTD. No problem there. :D ALso, Almost every CTD that goes down the little Farm to Market road past my place is straight piped. Music to my ears.

However, last year I had just finished some field work in Stinnett, TX when my boss wanted me to go check vibration on a customer owned compressor near Glenwood Springs, CO. So, I drive up there, check in to the Best Value inn, get something to eat and go to the room about 20:00. As I am backing in to my parking spot (not revving the engine), i see in the mirror, some guy open his door and yell at me to "turn that dam thing off".

I decided to knock on his door and ask him what his problem was. I knocked, no answer. So, I pounded on the door twice, and in a wierd tone of voice the guy yells "leave me the f alone!!". I finally got the picture that this guy was a couple bricks short of a pallet and left him alone before he started shooting.

Just about eveyone in my area has their Cummins straight piped. And I live on a big hill or mountain as they call it around here so I get to hear them all as they climb it in the evenings. There are a couple of straight piped PSD's also but that is noise pollution. Those things sound horrible. My only neighbor within several miles is my brother-in-law. Noise isn't an issue.
