Have a 99 quad w/auto 4x4 stock 134,000 miles. Last week it started hunting for 3rd/overdrive at 45-47 mph at moderate acceleration or when in that speed zone. At harder throttle will shift right thru. Any ideas? In Houston area.

DTT site said I may need a noise filter. Any experience with them?

Try changing out altenator. John Holms said they did that on a truck at Carson Dodge and that solved the problem. When brushes in altenator get worn down they arc more and create electrical interferance with trans.

Mine did this about a month ago. I followed Bills (DTT) advice to clean ALL the ground on the truck and mines been fine every since. ALL grounds need removed and cleaned on BOTH ends. This includes body and engine grounds. Also add a ground strap to the PCM on the passenger side firewall if it doesn't already have one. If it already has one, clean it.

There's also a TSB for this. It's a software update for the PCM that attempts to cure this problem. Some have reported this fixed theirs as well.
