I had my 99 in for new lift pump about two years ago and the Diesel Mach asked me if I want to get rid of the noise that the motor makes when under load of accelerating . So I said sure have tried looking for a way to locate the noise . He said to move the heater hose from the location back on motor forward to locate it front of motor and put plug found there to where the hose fitting was did this and no more noise . Had to get longer hose as it was to short to work at new location. total cost 4 dollars for hose . Ron Bissett in Metro Louisville KY:D

Rusty,

I'll keep everyone posted on the results. First impression is that it does help the engine breathe better by making the turbo (compressor side) more efficient. No noticeable performance gain, just smooth acceleration.

Fuel mileage seems to be better. However, change in ambient temperature, head winds, etc, could be the reason for the improvement. Will continue to evaluate over period of time... still have plenty more hunting trips planned between now and 31 Mar 04.

Ron,

Not sure the noise you eliminated is the same we've been discussing in this post (?). What type of noise were you experiencing? How did moving the location of the heater hose eliminate this? If it's not the same noise (flutter) I have, maybe I'll know how to approach/rid, if faced with it, the noise you heard.

Sound was like the Turbo got a lot more roar to it when accelerating would but would stop when let off . The hose change was the heater going in to the block don't know why but it did the job. The heater was not in use at the time so I don't know what control it had on the water flow ,My guess in it flows all the time and location of the hose intake was the cause of the noise turbulence at that point. just a guess but it stopped the noise . Your noise could be one of any number of things . I'm part def but that noise I could hear fine. Lol of luck in your search . Duck tape could help find it by masking off things as a test.
