insulation installation

Cooker, that looks like a very tidy installation in the photo in your post. This is a brand new truck for me and the thought of tearing the insides out terrifies me, to be honest. Any idea how much time your friend had into it at the time of the photo?

Also, what is the insullation being used?

Thanks, Pete

psallee,

It's a better part of a day to pull it apart, line it, and put it back together.

Not hard, just screws and bolts and a little TLC.

I wore earplugs!

Doc, I used to wear earplugs on long trips when the noise got to be too much!

You should know, you are a 'closet soundproofer' too! :D

You need to take a drive out here to the country and drive my truck now, you will be able to hear the nuts and bolts rattling in your cranium!:D :D

BTW, did you get your fuel lift pump replaced? If you want to come out one evening, we can put it up, and swap the pump from underneath.

More soundproofing coming soon!

quiet but heavy

BCFAST

That stuff sounds good but how heavy is it? I would like to quiet my truck but I don't want to make it heavier.

Lift pump's already been done, Greg. It only took 30 minutes from the top, using one hand.

When we find some of that lead lined stuff, I'll be up to let you help my put the stuff in.

I carry ear plugs incase someone that rides with me can't handle it. My brother, who hated to listen to me chew gum, thought the noise was kool. I guess he can't hear too well anymore :)

OK, Here's the Info!!

I contacted BGfast and got the scoop on this special foam:

The company is GSI Corp. in Ft Lauderdale Florida.

I was in Florida today on business so I visited them this afternoon and learned a lot, and purchased a bunch of their products.

Their website is www.soundstop.com Their phone # is 954-763-1844, the man I spoke with was Don Barnett.

Mention the TDR and you will receive a 15% discount. :D

This company is a manufacturer and wholesaler of these products. When I was there a shipment was labeled to be shipped to JC Whitney.

I ordered some of their 1/2" thick sound stop foam to add to my ongoing 'Operation Quiet Cummins' project.

They stock most of their products, and can take phone orders and ship the next day.

I can't wait to get my shipment and see how much more I can quiet my truck.

I'll post when I have some results, Greg L

Another area for the 5 spd guys to deal with is the shifter boot.

After pulling the interior and gluing and laying 1/2 thick rubber belting everywhere (floor, back of cab) and gluing 1/4" of rubber sheet to the doors behind the door glass (that was hard to do, you need double jointed arms) and stuffing synthetic quilts into all the cavitys in what's now the door areas of the quad cabs the truck was noticeability quieter.

However, after all that I still had lots of noise coming in from the shifter area. Taking another members suggestion, I filled the area between the inner and outer shifter boots with carpet foam. That helped.

But what really helped was to get a large piece of vinyl, glue carpet underlayment to it, and fashon a large shifter boot that goes around the transfer case and tranmission shifter.

This one addition was prehaps the single most effective sound reduction thing I did.

A easy way to check if this would work for you would be to wrap a heavy coat around the shifter boot and take a drive.

Good Luck, Ronnie
