Just finished my Amsoil dual by pass today and noticed three things that I have questions about.

1) Its pretty noisy. Sounds kinda like a power sterring pump thats low on fluid. Is this normal?

2) My oil pressure is now pretty much 40psi all the time, with slight fluctuations at speed and idle. How does this compare with others.

3) Damn that thing gets HOT!. The hole filter head and both filters get too hot to touch. Is this normal? Has anyone done anything to insulate the intake turbo intake hose that runs about 1/2 inch away from the filters?

Thanks in advance,

J-

1) Yes.

2) Mine is same.

3) I have a piece of foam stuffed there to insure the turbo hose won't rub any sharp edges. I'm not as concerned about the heat issue.

1 & 2 are why I have posted several times letting folks know that "if I had it to do over again", I would go with the Amsoil single remote, or Oilguard filters. It will be less convenient at filter changing time, but I want to see my old oil pressure again.

It wouldn't be right for me to slam the dual remote; it seems to be a good product that 99% of the users are completely satisfied with. However, I intend to replace the dual remote with one of those other options later this year. I'm fully aware that others are completely happy with dual remotes, but, this is my opinion and my truck, so that's what I'm going to do.

I have a Amsoil dual remote set up dead center under the radiator. Oil pressure runs just over 40 psi. I run a Amsoil 110 bypass filter on one side and the fleetguard stratopor on the other side. Filters are very easy to get at. They are protected by my front receiver hitch which is backed up with a 1/4 inch armor bash plate. I can have both filters changed out in about 5 minutes. Engine take 13 quarts in this configuration. :)

How did you get the Fleetguard to work and what # is the filter. What is needed to do this configuration. I need to do this. :)

Ditto what Chipstien said. I know the fleetgaurd will fit on the bypass side so did you get an adapter for the full flow side to get it to fit and if so what and where did you get it?

You are correct. I got another adapter and put on so I could run the fleetguard filter. I got it from Amsoil by calling them, but I had to pull some strings to just to get it. I'm an Amsoil dealer too. I have looked at having these adapters made and if there is enough interest in this I could could do a bulk buy for a price reduction. So how many of you would be interested in this???:D

Count me in.

Or can you give me an amsoil part number for the adapter. I tried calling and emailing them but so far to no avail. My brother in law who is also a dealer got some mumbo jumbo back as well.

You know when I sell this truck someone is going to get a great used truck :) I change oil and filter using Rotella T 15W40 every 4-5K miles and I use Mopar or Fleetguard filters. Engine should be good for 500K miles without a need for a overhaul. I don't think any used truck buyer deserves to get a truck that has had a bypass system. I hope after you guys go through all of this trouble your not trading these trucks before 750K miles. Need to get your time and moneys worth ;)

Pit Bull:

You are absolutely right. I personally plan on driving mine till the day I die which better be a very long way off (knock on wood). I do feel that this will be the last truck I own. The mods I have made are for functionality, comfort, fun, longevity and reliability. The EZ is about as much power as it will ever have added to it. As much as I would like to beef up the transmission it is going to wait until the current one is toast, might as well get my monies worth out of the one I have already paid for. Look for me in 20 or 30 years I will be the old guy driving the 2001 CTD. Kind of like the older people you see driving a mint 67 Cuda (or whatever) they bought new and only has 12k on it. Well the 12k won't be whats on my odometer more like 750k but you get the point.

I'm 53 and drive 18K per year. It will take me to my 81 birthday to get to 500K miles. I have a 95 Toyota Landcruiser that has 122K miles on it. Longest I have ever owned a vehicle and my wife is now driving it. ;) Like Clint Eastwood says "A man as got to know his limitations" Mine have to do with how long I can drive one vehicle without getting bored. I have friends that line up to buy my used vehicles, because of how I take care of them. I like these guys but not enough to spend the money to add a bypass filter :D I will own my CTD until I am out of the 100K warranty, but I don't think I can pass it along to my wife. She hates it :-laf
