2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Noisy blower motor

What all is required to yank out the motor and blower wheel. It makes the entire dash vibrate bad on any setting other than low. It sounds like it is out of balance.

It could be as simple as debris stuck in the blades or it might be damaged. Here are the removal/install instructions from my '98 manual. I imagine they're basically the same.

REMOVAL

(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative

cable.

(2) Disconnect the blower motor cooling tube from

the nipple on the blower motor housing (Fig. 45).

(3) Disengage the blower motor wire harness from

the wire harness retainer.

(4) Unplug the blower motor wire harness connector

from the heater-A/C housing wire harness.

(5) Remove the three screws that secure the

blower motor and blower wheel assembly to the heater-

A/C housing.

(6) Lower the blower motor and wheel from the

heater-A/C housing.

(7) Remove the blower wheel retainer clip and

remove the wheel from the blower motor shaft (Fig.

46).

INSTALLATION

(1) Press the blower wheel hub onto the blower

motor shaft. Be sure the flat on the blower motor

shaft is indexed to the flat on the inside of the blower

wheel hub.

(2) Install the retainer clip over the blower wheel

hub. The ears of the retainer clip must be indexed

over the flats on the blower motor shaft and blower

wheel hub.

(3) Be certain that the blower motor seal is

installed on the blower motor housing (Fig. 47).

(4) Install the blower motor in the heater-A/C

housing with three mounting screws. Tighten the

mounting screws to 2. 2 N·m (20 in. lbs. ).

(5) Plug the blower motor wire harness connector

into the heater-A/C housing wire harness.

(6) Install the blower motor wire harness into the

wire harness retainer.

(7) Connect the blower motor cooling tube to the

nipple on the blower motor housing.

(8) Connect the battery negative cable.

Mine vibrated the whole dash too, was just trash in the blower, all on one side.

If it is like the 97, takes less than 10 minutes to drop it, clean out the leaves, and get it back on.

What has to be removed to get at the motor?

The motor is hanging down from under the dash on the passenger side floorboard. As mentioned, just remove the three screws holding it up and it falls down. Two of the screws are easily accessible but I use an 8mm deep 1/4" socket on a u-joint with a 6" extension to get the back one out.

Sounds great, will give it a try tonight when I get home for work. Fingers crossed it is just some trash and not somthing broke or out of balance.

Well, that sure did the trick. There was a screw, red end for the anco winter wiper blades, and a bunch of leaves. No damage to the blower wheel thankfully. Vacuumed the A/C system and weighed in the charge and now the windows unfog in seconds not hours. Compressor is nice and quiet and actually cycles correctly. We'll see how long it lasts.
