So i installed my boost and egt guages today, everything works great except -

The boost gauge is VERY noisy, almost a rattling sound. Its so loud in fact that i have to turn the radio pretty loud to hear over it. I installed it in the big 3/4 NPT port in the side of the intake manifold, so thats probably why, correct? I need a snubber? Where do i get one?

Also my boost gauge reads 0 when im just idling around town in 4th gear, is that correct?

Now - part two - i have a superchips programmer with the wastegate blocked (HX35), but it still only makes a whoppin 20 psi of boost, do i need to "fool" the computer so it wont defuel? or is this all the boost my truck will make?

Thanks in advance

Jake

I came across a little plastic tube (on the internet) that I think splices in the boost line that has a resticted orifice in it that is suposed to stop the high frequency pulses from the turbo that make that gauge rattle/buzz? I haven't heard of others using this and cannot remember the site that had it. Hope this helps some- My dads stock 99 will make 22-23 when the waist gate was pinched off.

i installed my guage in the small 1/8 port near the front side of the intake and it doesn't make any noise and works great. i find i run 0 or close to while driving around town, at 120kph i make about 5-7 psi while cruising along, at wot i make around 25psi. boost is only made when it the engine starts to work.

Thanks for the input guys, i fixed it by hooking to the intake elbow, and using 1/8" air brake line instead of copper. Quiet as a nursing home now :-laf

JRichard, if the superchips programmer doesn't provide bost fooling, then you're correct that the ECM is defueling to keep the truck under ~20psi. you can use a separate boost fooler, or most of the fueling boxes have that function built in. If you can't get it over 20psi, you're missing out on a good chunk of power!
