Noisy (electronic) Ram vs CB and Cell???

Hello,
Trying to get to the bottom of a noise problem with my truck. A CB on this rig is out of the question, once the truck is running you'd think it was a gas truck with bad wires.....

Static on several CB installation attempts has been crazy. Grounding, etc etc no help.

Now I am fighting lousy Cellular phone service and starting to wonder if there is a connection to this noise as seen with the CB.

Anyone familiar with this who can tell me if I am barking up the wrong tree and/or what ideas I might try to isolate the noise?

No noise on the CB with the truck off. Cellular 'seems' better with the truck off, but hard to prove.

I wonder if my alternator might be the source, especially since I seem to be having premature battery failure on a truck with only 34K miles.

My alternator gauge is always well past the middle of the gauge, is that normal??

I would check Fritz's site for a TSB- I seem to recall Dodge adding a noise filter to the fuel pump... .

Is your radio working OK ? If it is try splicing into Radio's ground.
Sounds like electrical interference. Where? Not the spark plugs.
Does the 99 have the cable-less gas pedal?

TSB 08-06-99 (Rev A. ) covered 98-00 trucks. Reportedly installing a RFI filter in series with the electric fuel pump motor will solve the interference.

I think this TSB pertains to gasoline rigs(fuel pump module). I have experienced the same problem and found it to be coming from the fuel injection pump. If you are picking up your power for the CB at the power dist. center, using shielded wire will remove most of the noise. I also have a filter but havenr installed it yet. This noise would be greatly enhanced by a fueling box. bg

Your noise source is possibly your wiring for power and ground. First, your 12 volt power source lead should be run directly to the battery positive post. This is the cleanest source for power, as the battery is itself a noise filter. This lead should be 14 gauge or better. Second, you should ground the radio's power lead as close to the radio as possible, on a large major steel piece of the truck. Grounding of the radio is critical in this frequency range of radio. Do not splice or share any other ground with any device! You can actually radiate off the ground lead if you do! RF burn city!
