Looking for stick transmission adapters ideas for a 353 detroit ... looking to make a 4wd creature using a old samuri chassi i have and a 353 i have. . i on't have atranny yet and i'm debating if the sammy axles will hold up?. . only 150-200 hp for my project . . but i must have a stick transmission as i'm going to be looking for a jake for it. . if i can piece this together it would be very cool. . need something that would be able to cruis on the highway too . . so ultra low gearing is out. .

the theoretical plan is to basically take a sammy frame and a vw rabbit pickup. . mount the vw body on the sammy frame and use a my 353 on it. . i am planning on streching the sammy fram eto fit and i plan on stretching the rabbit pickup to fit 2dr rabbit door on it. stock rabbit pickups used 4dr rabbit door so leg room sucks in a stock one... .

If need be i have adanna 44 from a blazer front axle and a 9"ford rear too... or geat other stuff. cheap. . just basically looking to do a truck that will run max speed of 85 mph and have a jake and 4x4 with dual stacks,,hehe

any ideas or brain storms?

thanks

man the 353 isn't too big size or weight wise. . probably weights same as a big block chevy. . the 353 definately weighs less the the cummins b series or real close. . i have a 6v53 that is a little heavier then the b cummins etc... remember these are stripped down versions. . no need for big honking acessorise and large oil coolers etc. . smaller air cooler oil cooler will work etc... I am not 100% sure of the frame yet but i was planning on using the sammy frame and boxing it etc... heck may even make my own with rec tube... . transmission wise id like to do a stick to get the best use of the jake brake . . but i have 2 good 545 allisons, and t 400 . etc. . a nv 4500 would be cool or some thing similar... ... . mumn more ideas. . ha

You know... I saw that 3-53 you had and I think it will stick up at least to the middle of the windshield in a 'Sammy. :-laf

Hint: T-bucket...

yeah matt i think your right a t bucket 3 53 with the jake is probably better ... just stick the 5 cyl tdi with the quatum syncro drivetrain in my rabbit pickup. . and junk the sammy chassis idea... I know i'd feel much more comfortable driving a 5 cyl mechanical TDI engine around for a few hundred miles and im not sure i would trust the 353 for that etc... so ripping around town ina 353 t bucket is probably a smarter and more reliable use of that engine. . huh?..... still need to figure out a good 3 53 adaptable standard transmission for a 353 that will allow close to 100 mph or more ;) with a 3:00 or 2:75 final drive in my 9" rear... figure max rpm will be 3500 -4000. . but i would not hold 3500 or more for a high speed cruise etc... s o need at least 85mph at 3000 rpm or soo for highway driving... any ideas. .

Well - now you just need to figure out what size SAE housing you're dealing with... SAE-2, SAE-3? I dunno...

I wouldn't get anything more than a 9 speed... it's not like you'll need to split gears in a t-bucket... just make sure it has a . 75:1 OD ratio and you'll be all set.

I got some 36" (tall) x 17" (wide) drag slicks that would look mint on a t-bucket. :D

Matt

3-53=loud gutless wonder. It would look and sound cool in a T-bukcet, though!

I know I have seen them in full sized Broncos,so I bet there is a Ford adatpter. Auxillary trans, or oD unit might be in order. The Sammy doesn't leave much room for that,eh?

The Sammy would be too much of a PITA to make the 4x4 work and still have usuable driveshaft angles... especially since them 'super insane' angle shafts/joints are cubic dollars.

See - those same words are used to describe 6V-53's too. You and I both know what the 2-stroke Detroits are capable of... but, it takes a lot of work to get 'em there - and they still oil down the track. BUT, what other engine having 159cid can you think of that you can slap a REAL engine brake on?

Matt

Well - with a T-bucket cruiser... making noise is one of the requirements. :)

800hp with a 6V-53 (with N2O) is pretty easy... so... I figure that 300hp is totally doable with a 3-53 (without N2O).

300hp in a T-bucket should be nice.
