Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Fuel module question

Few weeks ago I bought a new headlight switch (with fogs) from oreilleys. Got it home put it in and now the fogs wont come on. Both have brand new bulbs. Checked the fog/drl fuse in the PDC, and the fog relay as well ( have the fog light mod done too). Still nothing. The indicator on the switch comes on but no fog lights. Before I run swap the switch out, is there anything else I need to check? What wires in the back of the switch should I check as well?

Thanks

Craig

Yes

Yep... The backlighting for the switch had long since come on on its own, and the day I replaced it, it had stopped turning the headlights on. Im not sure if the fog lights stopped working then, or if it was after that.

Well, before pulling it, I would certainly check to make sure there is no voltage at the lights with a test light. I know you said the bulbs are good and all, but checking there would tell you if it's at switch or lights. If no voltage there, then start at the switch. I can't remember what wire supplies the voltage for the fog lights, but checking the connections for corrosion or poor connection would ensure it's the switch. I've got a 99 tore apart on the yard for parts, I'll try to look at it tomorrow if I get time and get back to you. Also, check your headlight dimmer switch. Moving it back and forth several times making sure it's funcitoning properly might be a good idea. Remember the bright light function normally controls the ground for the fog lights. Or is that the mod you're refering to?

Check

I did check the voltage at the plugs. The dimmer works properly, as do the bright lights. The fog light mod I have done is the jumper to keep the fog lights on when I pull the high beams on. I think the next step may be to check the switch to see if it has voltage from there. NOW... just gotta find out which wire it is that controls the fogs.

Thanks

Craig

The wire at the headlight switch that triggers the fog light relay is brown with a yellow stripe, from the relay it is light blue. The wire from the fuse to the fog lights is red with orange stripe. bg

Should I be checking for positive or negative at the switch? I know there's something about ground switching. Just dont want to blow anything up.

Craig

There should be 12 v at the fog lights all time, the relay switches the negative side. The best I can tell from the schematic, the wire from the headlight switch will be negative. bg

Fixed

Finally got the problem fixed. There's a harness that passes under the front crossmember that the foglight harness plugs into. A small two wire harness leaves out of a bigger harness, goes into a plug, which goes into the harness that attaches to both fog lights. The wires in the female part of the plug had backed out. They looked to be weather pack and the "clamp" in the middle of the plug had popped loose, releasing the two terminals from the plug. This is not as visible looking from the bottom, and a while back a quick glance didnt notice this. Really got to looking hard into the problem today and found the two wires all the way out. Presto... I have fog lights again.
