Non ULSD with new 6.7 l Diesel

Hi to everybody, I em thinking to buy new truck, but somehow can't decide. Go with 5. 9 l or with new 6. 7 l. And this bring my Q. what will happened to the 6. 7 l engine, if I put non ULSD to it ? Reason for Q. is I travel lot to Mexico, but not so sure, if they will have ULSD available or even if is possible to believe is ULSD, if they stated that on the pump. Any idea ?

Not sure but I can only imagine how they will say you didn't use ULSD and claim they have to replace the whole fuel system at your expense anytime something doesnt run rite.

Sorry if that sounds pessimistic but I've read too many posts about wrotten dealers that will claim anything to get out of a difficult diagnosis.

ULSD is not available everywhere, and manufacturers know this.



You may have to get a letter from your dealer, but, member EB (Check the C&C forum) has put nearly 10k miles on his C&C with the 6. 7L using non-ULSD and he has had no problems...

Well from what i have heard the main reason you should not run LSD 500 ppm sulfer content in a new 6. 7 with particulate filter is because the sulfer content is much higher than that of ULSD 15 ppm sulfer content. If you run LSD it will over time plug the new particulate filter. The reason they changed fuel to ULSD is all because of emissions, there trying to reduce them and if you run old fuel in a new emissions legal truck it can damage it over time. I don't think it should hurt the rest of the fuel system though. Just my $. 02.



One more thing if you buy a new 6. 7 you also have to run a different type of engine oil than in the past, it is CJ-4 low ash oil. If you run the old CI-4 it can also contribute to plugging of the new particulate filters.

D/C is developing testing for fuel. If you are tested and the fuel is not ulsd the repairs will be yours! Good luck experimenting,

would the testing be able to tell just that tank of fuel or would it be able to tell the past history of trucks usuage... . the only thing I worry about is guys who buy ULSD and get LSD and not know it, you think they could color the fuel and educate owners, and or have sensors in the truck that could tell you the total sulfer content of the fuel your running.

I just changed my oil using the new stuff a couple weeks ago. I'll be sending a sample of it in when I change it at 15,000 miles. I've already got 7,000 miles on it and will be changing it next month.

Look like best way to go. Plus probably 10 K price different. I really don;t care to much for the 6. 7 l engine, 6 speed trany was my main reason I was interested in that combination.

The fuels are diff colors already. The ulsd is very light,the lsd is a bit darker and the b100 is very dark. Right now testing is being done to determine if b20 will be safe to use. I understand there is a lot of that in the San Diego area.

If you do end up getting a 6. 7 and are worried about LSD in Mexico, what about getting an auxilary tank and filling it prior to going south? Not sure how long you travel down there, but that might help. I'd get the 5. 9, but my 2 cents is worth about 2 pesos some places

Are fuel additives going to throw off the test? Right now here in Albuqueruqe you can buy ULSD at the car pump and LSD at the fuel island (flying J) and the reciept states it as well. What PI$$ES me off is that they require the new fuel or kill your warranty and not all pumps have the new stuff.

I think you are wrong. All the C&C for 07 use the ULSD. EB talks about it regenerating.

I was at the dealer today test driving a new 6. 7 C&C with the 6-speed auto (pretty nice BTW), and I asked him about the ULSD. He says that it could possibly ruin your fuel system (which is an extra grand on top of the CTD option). He also said it could possibly be a fire hazard with the extra stuff stuck in the particulate filter. If they find out, your warranty will definitely go away.

There are early 6. 7's and later 6. 7's. The early do not have the same emmisions pkg.

The D/c trainers are saying they were told in detroit that any non ulsd will start the destructive process,and that when the cat/trap fail fuel testing will be mandatory before any replacement will be shipped. They were told some ungodly amount like $2500. I think all the fuel additives have been changed to be compatible with ulsd,hopefully they are/

All 6. 7 are emissioned engines that require ULSD. My 07 C&C has not regenerated yet, but I only run ULSD. I have not had a problem getting the correct fuel. I have been to OH and SC and was able to get ULSD there also. My truck only has 3300 mi. on it though.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy. The exhaust on the 6. 7s actually smell like your burning LP. And you can barely hear them run.
